Located in the old Queen Victoria Hospital Building (long since transformed into fabulous apartments) at Rose Park, this is a long time fave of ours thanks to the fantastic service, stunning location and top shelf food. Directly opposite the old Victoria Park racecourse, which is an incredibly popular spot for families thanks to the open space and lush grass (bikes, ball games, family walks…whatever takes your fancy!), we love nothing more than a family meal topped off with a beautiful walk.

Commissary has you covered 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch (all day breakfast from 7:30am thank you very much!) and our crew just loved the food. We went for lunch, but thanks to the all day breakie, the kids were able to take their pick from the extensive menu (Surprisingly Mr 6 went the fairy floss pancakes…shock horror).

The milkshakes were a big hit (and my kids are tough milkshake critics), the freshly squeezed juices were fabulous and we thoroughly recommend the burgers (Any of them. Eat them all. You won’t be disappointed). My crew can be a little picky at times but the quality of food at Commissary is so good that even the toughest mini-food critics will be happy as Larry.

We have to point out one outstanding menu item (it is dessert…do love ourselves a speccie dessert) that needs a special mention. The lotus pancakes were recommended to us and we weren’t really sure what to expect. As you can see from the photos, they look sensational but they tasted even better! All the kids had a share and just loved it! The serving is huge so you could probably share amongst a couple of your crew too.

This is one of my top couple of brunch spots in Adelaide too. Partly for the location but mainly because they are consistently perfect when it comes to their food. You want your poached eggs to be cooked a certain way, they will nail it. Every. Single. Time. If you want somewhere that remembers your name and your fave orders, to make you feel like you are aren’t just yet another customer, then you will love it here.

Whenever we come here, you will see the place full of young families. You won’t find big indoor playgrounds or things like that, but that is totally fine here. You don’t always need that to be perfect for families. What they do have is outstanding customer service (REALLY hard to find that these days) and if you have a pram or 2 (all the family friendly facilities are covered too), they will look after you and make sure you have plenty of space. Your kids will love the food, they will love a run around across the road after or a little trip into the city and you will love the customer service.

Highly recommend. One of the best places to take the family without having to compromise the foodie experience! Can’t wait to go back.

Oh I didn’t even mention the coffee! How could I forget some of THE best coffee in town.

  • Do your kids love pizza? Do your kids love mac n cheese? If you answered yes to both......don't make them choose! We've found a place where you can get both......together......on the same plate! That's right.......mac n cheese deep crust pizza at Remy's - Deep Dish Pizza & Bar is a thing.....and it's a DELICIOUS crowd pleaser of a thing. If your kids are cheese obsessed like mine this is definitely going to be a winner! Plus the cocktails… YUM! Their menu is chock-a-block full of deep dish pizza goodness. If Mac n Cheese ain't your thing they've also got a bunch of other just as mouth watering pizza toppings including snag n shrooms, triple cheeseburger and the fire breather as well as never fail faves like The Basic B (just cheese) and BBQ chicken. There's vegan options and they also have fries, garlic bread and fried mozarella if you need something on the side. It comes with a disclaimer that the pizzas take 30-40 minutes to cook, but when we went there was super speedy service, which is always great when you have kids in tow. There's isn't heaps of room for prams, so just bear this in mind when…
