Legendary Textile Tales – Children’s Artspace

May 7, 2022 @ 10:00 AM - June 12, 2022 @ 3:00 PM UTC+0

Free

Children’s Artspace’s second exhibition is the stuff of legends!

Throughout term 1, textile artist Caitlin Bowe worked with students at Salisbury East High School and Craigmore High School to create a range of tapestries, 3D works and ink drawings. These are all based off of myths and folktales from each student’s cultural ancestry, creating a patchwork of stories from around the world.

From Denmark’s The Little Mermaid to Pakistan’s The Elephant Army and Italy’s Lariosauro, cultures from around the world are represented in this exhibition that explores the dark and the light alike in storytelling.

Legendary Textile Tales opens on Saturday 7 May. Come into the gallery, take a trip into history and legend, and create your own loom creation in our workshops Spinning a Yarn

Adelaide Festival Centre’s Children’s Artspace is back with a brand-new exhibition, Legendary Textile Tales, that explores myths, folktales and cultural ancestry with artwork from Salisbury East and Craigmore High School students on display to the public tomorrow.

Caitlin Bowe is a sculptor and textile artist who tailored workshops to help students fabricate collage tapestries, sculpt 3-dimentional felt talismans, paint inky mythical creatures, and layer symbols to tell visual stories.

Legendary Textile Tales open: Saturday 7 May – Sunday 12 June

Opening Hours: 10 am – 3 pm, Wednesday – Saturday

Where: Festival Centre – Enter via Festival Plaza or Dunstan Playhouse Foyer

**Free activity, Spinning a Yarn, will take place in Children’s Artspace this Saturday and Sunday (7 – 8 May) where families are invited to create their own handheld loom.
