Harvest Kitchen can be found at the top of Magnolia Rd, just outside the township of Tanunda, and partners with Calabria Family Wines Barossa who’s tasting room sits under the same roof. (You may know it as Artisans of Barossa).
We had high expectations after hearing so much about this place – including rave reviews on the food AND that it was extremely family friendly. Fair to say our expectations of both were blown out of the water.
We didn’t want a pub meal, felt like venturing from our accommodation, wanted it to be a little bit fancy (as it was our only evening dinner in the Barossa) BUT it needed to cater for the kids. And cater it did.
Greeted on arrival with a cup of fresh textas for the table, the kids eyes lit up and they soon got busy with some hang man and selfie drawings, buying us time to properly peruse the menu.
The kids menu was both simple and elegant. The Fried Chicken with Aioli was order of the day for the kids, and WOW, it might not sound like much but it was next level. It’s kind of a big deal in the popularity stakes and this tasty buttermilk soaked crispy goodness has made it on to the big people menu too.
The MENU here is designed for sharing. We were a bit overwhelmed and decided on the ‘Feed me like a Barossan’ experience, letting the kitchen team feed us so as we could see what it’s like to be a true local. SO much fun and offers incredible value at $49 pp for numerous savoury only dishes, or $59 with dessert (minimum two people). I HIGHLY recommend this dining experience. The food is packed with flavour and local produce stars in every dish. The presentation and culinary skill here are nothing short of divine. The service delivery equally impressed us with passionate local wait staff, full of regional knowledge.
We ate indoors, because our visit was in winter. Between courses the kids enjoyed some fresh air, ten thousand cartwheels, handstands, some wrestling (of course) and general play out on the lawn, while we were able to keep an eye on them from the table (they are 12, 10 and almost 5).
I can absolutely see us back here as a family eating this gorgeous food and enjoying a wine out doors in Spring/Summer/Autumn. Lawn games are provided in finer weather and on select days a pop up lawn bar comes to life. Somebody say lawn bar? Yep Harvest Kitchen did – stalk their socials for details.
We had packed emergency iPads and didn’t need to pull them out until it was almost time to leave. The older kids loved the word search game on the back of the menu that listed local produce suppliers used by the kitchen. Smart. We also find a promise of dessert for the kids works well, and the ice cream and topping + special caramel popcorn scored 11/10 from the kids.
Finally there is a sophisticated little lounge area off to the side of the main dining. We enjoyed sitting and snapping some cute photos and for those of us that ate too much a little stretch out and five minute kip.

Put Harvest Kitchen on your Barossa with Kids radar. It would make a lovely venue for a spacial family celebration or just a quality meal out. Even the taxi driver told us it’s in his top three places to recommend for a truly sophisticated yet casual Barossa experience.

If you are planning a Barossa trip with kids, we have found the perfect place for you to stay - Angaston Vineyard Motel.
