There’s no doubt about it, being in isolation for your birthday SUCKS! And actually just the title of this post makes us a bit sad BUT there’s a lot of kids out there who are, one way or another, going to have very memorable birthdays this year so we’ve come up with some ideas on how we can turn those frowns upside down and make them memorable for a good reason!

Our Kids in Adelaide Facebook group page has had lots of great suggestions for how to celebrate a birthday in isolation so we thought we’d share some of them on our website……

AFL Max Virtual Parties enable kids to connect with their friends online and enjoy their birthday party from the safety of their own home. Kids can even invite AFL Players to join in!

The 100% online party platform connects the party guests, with a dedicated AFL Max party host in each party.

With their host, guests are guided through a range of activities (not just footy), which combine physical and mental challenges, games and quizzes. AFL Players can also be invited to join the party for a Q+A session, or send through a personalized video message for the birthday child.

For friends of Kids in Adelaide we would like to offer you a discount, simply enter “KIDSPARTYMAX” at checkout for 10% off* your party package!

The Virtual Parties can be booked now and are hosted Thursday – Sunday each week. Bookings and more information at

(*Code valid until 31st May 2020, excludes party extras)

Go camping!

Backyard camping that is! Set up the tents in the backyard, get out the fairy lights, grab ALL the pillows and blankets and sleep under the stars for a night or two. Why night make it a challenge and ONLY go in to the house for the toilet. See how long you can last outside. Don’t forget fire restrictions are in place for April so you’ll have to improvise on the campfire bit.

Party Drive Bys

Organise a party drive by! Pick the time and date and invite the grandparents and school besties to drive by and wave, blow some bubbles out of the car window (actually that’s and accident waiting to spill on the back seat), toot the horn, blow some party whistles, crank some tunes, decorate the car if you are creative etc. It could be be one car, could be ten – it’s bound to put a smile on every ones face! Maybe drop a note in the neighbours letter box if you are expecting a few drive-by’s.

Gather the chalk pot, the brighter the better and invite some friends to swing past your driveway or footpath (one at a time) to write a message and draw a picture and birthday cheer in the driveway. It might required some planning to ensure the birthday girl or boy don’t see it in progress!

What good is a birthday with out spending time with the people that you care about! Send invites and set up a group video chat for the kids. The platforms are endless from Zoom to Google Hangouts, House Party and more. Make sure there is supervision and ensure you know how to keep it safe from unwanted crashers or content.

Here is some advice on that from Zoom:

Organise a virtual sleepover

Set up the lounge room ready for a sleep over and connect a few best friends up online to watch a movie together.

Options for home delivery are at an all time high! Get a special box of donuts delivered (Krispy Kreme were doing FREE delivery last we saw) or maybe it is the families favourite take out for dinner or just some dessert! Local ride share company Shebah are doing pick ups and deliveries of pretty much any thing and every thing currently and they have such a lovely business ethos we can’t help but want to support them always.

Make Your Own Cake at Home Packs

Available to keep the kids entertained and to create their own Easter treats.
Decorations/colours may vary in packs.

Delivery available can pay via eftpos on delivery or can be made over the phone.

Please contact the store on 72258486 or email

Organise a card drop

Secretly organise for as many friends as possible to make up a card and post it in the letterbox the night before the birthday. How exciting would that be to wake up to a letterbox FULL of birthday messages from all the besties.

Make the kids work a bit harder for their present/s this year! Hide them in the garden with a series of clues. Perhaps family or friends who might want to drop a small gift can hide it in the front garden?

Fairy Jasmine or one of her ‘Princess Friends’ can sing your birthday child a personalised song and send some exclusive videos!

We loved The Fairy Wonderland show at this years Adelaide Fringe and this is a great way to support the arts, who are also hard hit by the current crisis. Imagine your favourite character singing your child’s favourite song with sing a long lyrics, personal words of praise and encouragement and your chosen character singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to your child. Cost $45 email and see and example here
