If you’ve ever been tempted to try making your own kids party lollies or just a new snack that your kids will love then definitely try these easy jelly and custard gummy lollies out at home! You’ll need some moulds such as the silcone ones we got from kmart and Coles for $1-2each and then get into it and make your own jelly lollies!

Ingredients:

  • 1 x jelly crystals pack (makes 700ml)
  • 350ml boiling water
  • 1.5 tablespoons Gelatin Powder
  • 2 tablespoons custard powder
  • 300ml milk
  • 1 tablepoon of Gelatin Powder

Method:

Make up the jelly by adding 350ml of boiling water to the crystals (about half the amount of water the usual instructions call for) plus 1.5tablespoons of the gelatin. Stir over medium heat until it boils and the jelly crystals dissolve.

Remove from heat and leave to cool for just a few minutes before pouring into moulds. Place in the fridge for about 15-20mins (you’ll be able to feel when they are set as they will be gummy and not squish into jelly bits!).

Make up the custard by adding the custard powder into the milk in a small saucepan and whisking well. Place the saucepan over low heat and continue whisking continuously until the mixture thickens slightly – remove from heat immediately at this stage. Pour custard mix into the moulds on top of the set jelly mix and place back into the fridge for another 15-20mins until set.

Remove from moulds, store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks (if they last that long!). My kids actually prefer them room temperature so I usually take a few out each morning and they last well in a container when we are out and about!

  • The Best Gingerbread Recipe from The Colourful Housewife I have always been a bit fearful of making gingerbread, mostly because it just sounds hard because it's ginger AND bread. I mean, sure, I have made chocolate cake before, but cakes are meant to be lots of different flavours whereas bread, well, that's just bread. Adding ginger to it sounds all just a little too tricky to me! So, thank you Colourful Housewife for this simple recipe (including 3 handy hints) to help making my losing of my gingerbread virginity that much easier. 3 Handy Hints before you begin.. Resting the dough for the recommended time of at least 2 hours is VERY important. When you finish mixing the ingredients it tastes good, when its rested for the advised 2 hours it tastes great, when rested for over 24 hours it tastes AMAZEBALLS! When resting for over 2 hours, pop it in the fridge and bring it back to room temp before using.
