We will help you out here, it is pronounced “Oh-Lee-See-Ah”, but all you will need to say after you visit is “Oh-My-God-That-Was-Amazing”. Our KiA crew from the hills have been very regular visitors since it opened a year or so ago. You will find it located in prime position right at the top of the beautiful main street in Mount Barker.
The building itself is a beauty. A large and beautifully developed historical property, it is absolutely perfect for families with the spacious interiors and spot on grassed area out the front, which is just the bees knees on a sunny Spring day. Nobody likes going out for lunch and feeling like you are sitting on top of each other (especially with larger families) and thankfully this is not the case here at all. With a family of 5, we had all the space in the world on big tables which allowed Mr 7 and baby Jack to play with some of the large toy selection, games and puzzles on offer. We also loved the BIG box full coloured pencils and just the thought in general that has been put in to helping entertain little people. Oleaceae really have catered so well for families, they also have a lovely parents room which is often overlooked.
If you are lucky enough to visit on a nice day, they had set up a blanket and some toys out on the grass which (especially if you happen to sit outside on the patio) gives it that relaxing winery feel. We could genuinely have stayed here all day, we were that content and comfortable (which is saying something when you take a couple of tweens and an energetic 7 year old).
When it came time to eat, wow! I had high hopes here and they well and truly delivered. Then some! Don’t be put off if you think your fussy eaters won’t like the Mediterranean menu, because not only is there a good mix of all standard fare, but if my fussy eaters gave it the huge tick of approval then surely every kid in the state will love it here. May seem a big call, but as an example, one of the tweens will eat mac and cheese but not melted cheese. Madness.
The kids menu has had a huge revamp since our last visit, with so many fantastic options for the kids to try. We of course had to get the Babyccino Board for little Jack, with the kids Grazing Platter also going down a treat. For Mr 7, he couldn’t get enough of the Macaroni Bolognase. but there are so many options you will definitely be sorted.
Oh adults, get the Churros for dessert. Un-fricken-believable.
We loved the mediterranean twist on the usual brunch options and enjoyed ourselves so much. The open fire place is heaven on cooler days.
There is plenty for adults and kids alike on the lunch menu, with a great range of options for the little crew and we highly recommend the burgers. They were phenomenal (and we have eaten more than a few lately).
The best test for us is what the kids think, they can be brutally honest with their appraisals (and noticing if Dad has been eating too many burgers). What we can share, is that the entire clan absolutely loved this place and we have turned this into one of our regular family spots for lunch. That is a resounding tick of approval in our books!
