We’ve been a KinderGym family for a few years now. And, I have to say, it is absolutely worthwhile. Our kids LOVE it. Seacliff KinderGym has three huge spaces, and a mammoth variety of equipment for the kids to enjoy. If you’re not sure what Kindergym is, it’s basically a program that encourages children to develop physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively. Sessions go for 45 minutes, a little shorter for BabyGym and there are different sessions for different stages of development, for ages 0-5 (read on for more info on this).

“Educational research tells us that children learn best through exploring and discovering their abilities through physical activity.”

At the start of each session at Seacliff KinderGym, music is used to encourage cross patterning, stimulating the brain- and ingraining songs into your head that you’ll find yourself singing for the rest of the day! My favourite part about this is the connection you build with your child (or in many cases, grandchild). They love watching you join in with the simple movements and songs. It’s a really fun way to start the sessions. The intructors are incredibly informative, detailing how and why the movements help our little ones develop. All Seacliff KinderGym programs are conducted by qualified, accredited level 1 Kindergym/Gymnastic coaches.

After the music and movement introduction, the children and their parents/grandparents move through into two huge gym halls where a range of equipment is set up. At Seacliff KinderGym, some of the equipment changes each week to match the theme. For example, Kangaroo theme- jumping equipment, Snake theme- crawling equipment, Monkey theme- climbing and hanging equipment. The children enjoy trying new things and also going back over the set equipment to consolidate their skills, such as the balancing beams and trampolines.

The equipment is set up safely, and parents are required to be with their children and focussed on them to help them learn and provide praise and positive reinforcement. It really is a special time each week for my kids as they often go with their grandfathers now, which has really created a beautiful bond.

The program promotes the child as the key focal point and involves active participation of the child’s mother, father or carer.”

So what are the facilities like?

At Seacliff KinderGym, there are baby change facilities, lockers for valuables, space for prams within the hall and toilets. The gym consists of three large halls, one for the music and group activities part, and two for the equipment “free play” section of the sessions. There are new automatic doors with a push button entry and exit button which make it easy to enter/exit with a pram, and also prevent little ones heading out at their own will! There is a carpark next to the hall and plenty of street parking too. Each family is rostered on to bring a snack each week, and there’s no doubt my kids are huge fans of this part of KinderGym too!

  • Located behind the Kauri Community Sports Centre this NEW playground is a great addition to this community space. With a pirate ship theme and its bright colours it is very hard to miss. Featuring a little something for everyone. I would say that this playground is for ages 3 and up with a few little pieces for the younger toddlers. The bright blue smiley face tubular slide is probably the hot attraction along with lots of climbing obstacles to challenge a few different levels. You will find lots of ropes to climb up, over and through along with several styles of rock climbing. The rock climbing cube being the most challenging and interesting piece for the energetic. The main area of equipment also features an all access area with lots of games and musical chimes for the kids to utilise at the top. My 2 year old especially loved this area and spent a lot of time here. The playground also features a merry go round, sea saw, swing set including nest and baby swing. There is also some grass at one end for the kids to run around on The playground is located right near the car park and…
