The Magic Quilt

Learn, Read

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Winnie and I were lucky enough to be given a copy of The Magic Quilt, by it’s author Katie Sokolic. Katie is a Gold Coast Mum who has recently launched her new website www.themagicquilt.com.au with a whole range of goodies to complement this lovely book about Toby and his Magic Quilt.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The book is really easy to read and has a great rhyming flow about it. I think it’s quite similar to reading something by Julia Donaldson (The Gruffalo etc) it’s like a poem and even after only a few reads Winnie was remembering sections of the book to read out loud.

The illustrations (done by Katie’s Dad Glenn) are really bright and colourful and match the words perfectly. The pages are full of all the things that kids love – magic, trains, sharks and giants. The story is easy to read, and easy to understand. Winnie loves to explore each page’s adventure whether it be under the ocean with the animals, or laughing at the giant and his fridge full of jelly.

Actually the story of the giant is very very clever, and if you have a child who is scared of storms, the book tells a great story of how and why we have thunder, lightning and rain. We spend A LOT of time on this page EVERY time we read the book!

On the website you can find all sorts of goodies to accompany the book. I love the idea of having your very own Magic Quilt to snuggle under while you read. What a great way for the kids to re ally immerse themselves in this magical book.

You can buy the quilt already made, or you can make it yourself (so much more special I think) with one of the quilt kits that come with everything you need to get started. Katie assures me that even the most amateur seamstress can make this quilt (aka ME!) but good old Nanna came to the rescue on this one, and whipped it up for Winnie’s 3rd birthday. What a very special treat for a Nanna to give her Grandchild.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5724″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]The Magic Quilt retails for just 15 bucks and you can buy it online here
