Illuminate Adelaide 2024

A celebration of innovation, art, light, music and technology  4 – 21 July 2024

Each year throughout July, Illuminate Adelaide celebrates that idea by bringing together the best and boldest in art, music, technology and invention from around Australia and the world, and sets them loose across the city and the state.

From 4 – 21 July 2024, South Australia’s premier winter event turns Adelaide’s streetscapes and iconic locations into a beacon. An invitation. A city-wide spectacle daring you to shake off the winter blues and rekindle a sense of wonder. Welcoming people from all walks of life to experience a program of free and ticketed events by local, national and international artists, Illuminate Adelaide is about staying up, heading out, and coming together. It’s about looking forward, breaking ground, and making memories. It’s about turning those long winter nights into an opportunity: to wake imaginations and let curiosity run wild.

There are a number of ways you can explore Illuminate Adelaide and all the different venues, buildings and precincts that plan to light up this winter.

Highlights for Illuminate Adelaide 2024 are

Universal Kingdom: Prehistoric Nights at Adelaide Zoo

A brand new event that will take you on a thrilling adventure through time. Witness the evolution of Earth’s first creatures with life-size puppets, dazzling light displays, and incredible large-scale installations. See playful Plesiosaurs frolic with their young, come face-to-face with Australia’s Megaraptor, and even wander through a sea of floating Biolumes.

Fire Gardens

The Adelaide Botanic Garden ignites with the Fire Gardens event, a three-week spectacle of captivating flame sculptures. Thousands of handcrafted firepots dance and flicker, while kinetic sculptures add a touch of movement. Live music fills the air, and candlelit pathways guide you through the transformed landscape. This premiere twilight event promises a feast for the senses.

EDEN

An Adelaide exclusive event and an experience for the whole family to dive into, EDEN invites you to explore the beauty and importance of our planet and marvel at what you’ve created in a world of imagination and inspiration. A digital garden at your fingertips across one hundred and fifty square-metres of LED screens, discover how just one person planting a small seed in the ground can lead to the growth of a vast, lush surrounding. Let curiosity and movement guide you as the wonder of nature takes centre stage and cutting-edge digital technologies allow you to create plants and flowers that transform the landscape around you.

SUPERLUMINAL

Prepare to be amazed by Patch Theatre’s newest creation, Superluminal, premiering at the South Australian Museum! This one-of-a-kind experience blends captivating storytelling, interactive play, and mind-blowing visuals to take you on an unforgettable journey into the wonders of nature and time. Led by friendly performers, children aged 4 to 8 and their families are invited to dive into an enchanting world where they’ll discover the magic of light and explore the secrets of our extraordinary planet.

City Lights

Back for a third dazzling year and one of Adelaide’s most loved events this year’s free program promises to be even more captivating, showcasing works by local and international talents. Prepare to be surprised by interactive installations, ponder thought-provoking art, and be awestruck by breathtaking projections from the world’s leading creative studios. City Lights will transform Adelaide’s iconic landmarks and hidden gems from July 5th to 21st, so unleash your sense of adventure and join the fun!

How to book tickets Online – You can book tickets online here. Simply click the BOOK button next to each event to be directed to the authorised ticket seller.
In Person – there will be designated box offices available at certain events. Additional details regarding the operating hours of these box offices will be shared closer to the commencement of the event. Please note: Illuminate Adelaide is a cashless event. All children require a ticket for entry to ticketed events. Free entry with a $0 ticket is available to children aged 4 years and under for Resonate, Mirror Mirror and Light Creatures, and aged 2 years and under for Architects of Air: Arborialis.

Where to park – Illuminate Adelaide events are scattered throughout the city. It is advisable to plan your itinerary thoughtfully and select the most suitable Wilson Parking site based on proximity and accessibility for your event.
Public Transport – To navigate your movement across Illuminate Adelaide events scattered throughout the city, Adelaide Metro provides a specialised network of buses, trains, and trams. You can access the Adelaide Metro planner to obtain timetables and tickets and select the option that best suits your requirements. Or you can utilise the Free City Connector bus and tram services, which operate on a continuous loop throughout the city and North Adelaide. These services run every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends.
