Whenever you travel to a regional town, you always ask the locals “where is the best place for a feed”, which usually points you in the right direction. In the case of our Moonta trip, we were unanimously pointed to Cafe Capella for the best family feed, and boy we were not disappointed.

Easily to find, right in the heart of town on Main Street, with choices to dine in or take away on offer we chose to dine inside (mind you, the alfresco eating area would be spot on when the weather suits….or leave the kids inside and pop outside to cradle your locally sourced beers. Whatever works). My crew have become semi-professional restaurant milkshake testers of late and they spoke very highly of the offerings here, with a range of flavours and a good sized serving to boot. So with the milkshake entree sorted and a winner, it was time to try the rest of the menu (speaking of the menu, it is substantial! If you can’t find something you like here, you don’t have a mouth)

We may or may not have gone over board with the entrees (confession….we went way overboard but totally worth it) and we absolutely recommend the arancini balls and garlic cheese pizza (we also got a serve of nachos because it felt un-Australian not too). In hindsight, the servings were big enough that we could have just gone with one entree to satisfy our crew of 5 big eaters.

For the kids, the menu offers and under 10s selection which is well priced at between $6 and $10 bucks, and will sort out most of the usual kid food groups. Mr 6 is going through some weird spag bol phase at the moment so he pretty much only orders that oddly enough, but the spag was a smash hit so no doubt the rest is too! There wasn’t much in the way of kids entertainment, like toys or drawing activities if your kids are into that, but the quality of the food seemed to distract our crew well enough so it wasn’t particularly missed at the time.

They are known for their pizzas and burgers and boy did the adult and teens in our fam test out that reputation! We can safely vouch for any of the burger, pizza or parmy options as being top notch and good value to boot. We aren’t usually massive dessert fans (that is of course a total lie) but just this once we made an exception for the “Sundae”, a raspberry flavoured sorbet infused (well sounds better than ‘plonked on top’) with fruchocs and cream. Big enough to share too, or just smash it down yourself because you deserve it.

So add us to the list of folks singing the praises of Capella’s, an absolute must when you hit up Moonta for a few days.
