Get outdoors and discover the wild side of South Australia during Nature Festival 2026, with more than 350 events happening across the state these school holidays.

This year’s theme is Seed, celebrating the little things that grow into something bigger; from gardens and food to community, culture and our connection with nature.

There’s plenty for families and kids to get involved in, with free activities, outdoor adventures, creative workshops, nature experiences, gardens, storytelling and plenty of opportunities to get hands-on with the natural world.

Family-friendly highlights

The Seedling Exchange
Daily | North Terrace, outside the State Library
Head into the city and help create a growing community garden. Kids can plant a seed, water it and add to this shared nursery celebrating growth and possibility.

Spring into 140 Years at State Flora
Saturday 3 October | State Flora Nursery, Belair National Park
Celebrate 140 years of State Flora with free family activities, a look at the nursery’s history and a native plant tube giveaway for the first 140 sales.

Blossom & Bud: Springtime Picnic
Sunday 4 October | Jauma Farm, Lenswood
Explore the Adelaide Hills with a guided walk through blossoming orchards and spring vineyards before settling in for a picnic celebrating seasonal produce and organic farming.

The Amazing Nature Race
Sunday 27 September | Brinkworth Reserve, Port Lincoln
A nature-inspired adventure where families can solve challenges, uncover hidden treasures and explore the natural world.

Kangaroo Island Rare Plant Garden
Sunday 4 & Monday 5 October | Cygnet River, Kangaroo Island
Discover some of Kangaroo Island’s rare and endemic plants and learn about the work being done to protect them for future generations.

Kardla: A Journey of Healing Country Through Fire
Friday 9 October | Adelaide Parklands
Learn about the cultural and ecological role of fire through a walk with Kaurna Kardla, exploring Traditional Knowledge and caring for Country.

Seed Stories: Lessons for These Times
Saturday 10 October | Art Gallery of South Australia
An afternoon of storytelling, seed sorting and hands-on knowledge sharing exploring food, seeds, memory and our connection to the earth.
