 OzAsia Festival 2024: 24 October – 10 November

The OzAsia Festival, Australia’s premier contemporary arts festival celebrating Asian culture, returns to Adelaide Festival Centre from October 24 to November 10. This year’s program, featuring over 300 artists from 12 countries, includes 7 world premieres, 4 Australian premieres, and 9 Adelaide premieres. Tickets are now on sale.

Family-Friendly Highlights:

  • Moon Lantern Trail: A free, family-friendly event featuring giant lanterns, roving performances, giant puppets, interactive workshops, and delicious food from October 24 to 27 at Tarntanya Wama/Pinky Flat.
  • AnimeGO!: A celebration of Japanese pop culture on October 27 at Festival Theatre foyer, featuring activities and entertainment for fans of all ages.
  • The Story of Chi: A captivating, coming-of-age tale using theatre, puppets, and shadow puppetry, perfect for families.
  • Tanabata: Star Village: An interactive art installation inviting audiences to make origami and contribute wishes to an evolving galaxy, inspired by the Japanese star festival, in Dunstan Playhouse foyer.
  • Lucky Dumpling Market: Returning to Elder Park with a variety of cuisines from local vendors and free live entertainment on the OzAsia Festival stage.
  • Weekend of Words: A gathering of Asian and Asian Australian writers and thinkers, offering thought-provoking panels and inspiring conversations. Full program to be announced in September.

Other Notable Events:

  • Por Por’s Big Fat Surprise Wedding: A hilarious dinner theatre performance starring Koh Chieng Mun from “Crazy Rich Asians,” featuring a four-course Indian meal and a glass of sparkling wine.
  • A Passage to Bollywood: An Australian premiere of a live Bollywood film experience with breathtaking dance routines by choreographer Ashley Lobo.
  • Taylor Sheesh: The Errors Tour: A Tik Tok superstar’s performance with stunning choreography, outfit reveals, and a Meet & Greet for Taylor Swift fans.
  • Scored in Silence: Chisato Minamimura’s portrayal of deaf survivors of the 1945 atomic bombs in Japan, performed in Auslan with English surtitles.
  • The Special Comedy Comedy Special: A one-night comedy event featuring Asian Australian comedians, hosted by Jason Chong.
  • The Happiest Refugee Live!: Anh Do’s live performance based on his bestselling memoir at Festival Theatre on November 7.

The festival will also feature visual arts exhibitions, such as Jessie Hui’s “Hello, how am I?” and Vivian Ho’s “Wish you were here,” alongside cultural showcases and film screenings.
