KIDS IN ADELAIDE REVIEW
FIVE STARS!
What a fabulous performance! The team from Theatre Bugs and Adelaide Theatre Academy have worked hard to bring audiences The Wizard Of Oz this Adelaide Fringe season and we loved it!
This show was incredibly well rehearsed, taking inspiration from the movie, the Broadway production and of course L. Frank Baum’s book. It is a full length musical, showcasing the talents of the students and the singing, dancing and acting opportunities available through this local performing arts school.
Before we get into the performers themselves, let’s discuss the stagecraft. The set was effective and moved easily around the stage, cleverly complimenting the digital backgrops. The stark difference between the drab Kansas landscape and the colours of the Land Of Oz in both set design and costumes pulled the audience into the story and made us feel as if we were right there with Dorothy on her adventure.
Onto the actors and every single performer committed 100% to their role and delivered with gusto. From the sweet singing voice of Dorothy, to the tapping talents of the Tinman, the pure sass of the Wicked Witch, right through to each ensemble member, every cast member up onstage was well rehearsed with evident solid training behind them.
Our kids were enthralled the entire time – they bounced along in their seats to the songs, loved watching the characters come out into the audience and cheered when (Ding Dong!) the Wicked Witch was DEAD!
Another fabulous offering from Theatre Bugs and the Adelaide Theatre Academy.
