The Vikings are coming!

To celebrate the Treasures of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard exhibition, the South Australian Museum is holding a month-long celebration, culminating in VikingFest on 28 and 29 June.

Gather your horde for this two-day festival featuring a vibrant marketplace brimming with medieval-themed delights. Discover handcrafted costumes, textiles, woodwork, leather goods, longbows, forged items, jewellery and replica weapons all while sipping on locally brewed mead.

Enjoy medieval combat exhibitions, re-enactments and axe throwing, all set to the sights and sounds of medieval music and entertainment. Dress up is encouraged with prizes awarded for the best medieval costume and Viking beard – just leave your armour and weapons at home.

Throughout VikingFest, you’ll also have the opportunity to visit the current exhibition, Treasures of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard, which will be open throughout VikingFest.

Entertainment at VikingFest

• Lyrebird Consort (five-piece ensemble featuring authentic music)
• Lucielle Murray (Nordic music, songs and stories)
• Inferno (fire-themed shows twice a day)
• NVG – Magnaura (costumes, armour and displays)
• Lumberjacks Mobile Axe Throwing (safe axe throwing for all levels)‍
• Eastway Vikings (immersive living history displays)
• Kendall Forge (traditional blacksmithing)
