Prepare for the Winter Whalefest, a month-long extravaganza commemorating the annual migration of whales to the breathtaking Fleurieu Peninsula!
It’s a time to celebrate the arrival of Southern Right Whales and the shared commitment of the Victor Harbor and Fleurieu community to safeguarding our coastal landscapes and marine habitats.
With a thoughtfully curated lineup of over 25 events, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with marine conservation thought leaders, explore the wonders of the marine world firsthand, and participate in a variety of educational and cultural experiences.

Welcoming of the Whales and Smoking Ceremony – Sunday, 9 June 2024 | 9:00 am 10:00 am
Experience the official opening of Whale Season with a free event! Join everyone at 9:00am on Sunday, June 9, 2024, for a traditional Ramindjeri Welcoming of the Whales and Smoking Ceremony at the amphitheater situated in Solders Memorial Gardens, Flinders Parade.
Self guided tour: Whale Art TrailTake a self-guided tour of eight whale art pieces located in Victor Harbor.
Trail maps available for download online via the link below or printed copies are available from the Victor Harbor Information Centre or Coral Street Art Space.

The Victor Harbor Artisan Market is a great place to gather with friends and family – in support of 50 plus local and South Australian artisans, creative small businesses, food & beverage vendors and musicians.
Held in the heart of Victor Harbor at Railway Plaza, under Moreton Bay fig trees and amongst the towns cherished heritage buildings.
VR Experience – Marine Life of the Great Southern Reef | Saturday, 8 June 2024, 10:00 am 2:00 pm | SA Whale Centre
Join Experiencing Marine Sanctuaries for a totally immersive experience. Put on a pair of VR goggles and immerse yourself in the marine life of the ‘Great Southern Reef’. Experience the colourful giant Australian cuttlefish, friendly sea lions, seadragons, and what it is like to dive under the Rapid Bay jetty surrounded by other divers and large schools of reef fish.
The whole session lasts 30 minutes. The experience starts with a VR dive briefing before a 15 minute 360 virtual reality experience.

Junior Whale Spotter Training | Saturday, 8 June 2024, 11:30 am 3:00 pm | Railway Plaza
Our Junior Whale Spotter Program aims to teach kids, and adults, about the different types of whales we see here on South Coast, and how to identify them. Suitable for kids aged 8 years an up. 30 minute sessions with two session times available to choose from.
Sessions are being held in a marquee near the Victor Harbor Visitor Information Centre (SA Whale Centre) building.
Parent/guardian must stay in the Railway Plaza area while the session is being run.
