Friday 13 and Saturday 14 March 2026
Celebrating Italian food and culture at Sauce Day at Adelaide Central Market, families are invited to join in a hands-on tomato sauce making experience. Participants will be rolling up their sleeves and using fresh local tomatoes to learn traditional Italian passata techniques, with each person taking home their own jar of sauce. Running over two days, the festival includes live music, roving entertainment, cooking demonstrations, and special market trader offers to explore. Younger food lovers are catered for with kids-focused gnocchi making sessions, while free face painting and charcoal sketching add to the family-friendly atmosphere. All ages and cooking abilities are welcomed to these fun, interactive activities celebrating market produce and Italian culinary traditions.
At one of the five hands-on sessions, you’ll use local tomatoes and learn the traditional techniques of authentic Italian tomato sauce making and you’ll get to take home your very own jar of sauce!
Anyone who loves Italian culture will enjoy these fun sessions, and the classes are suitable for all ages and cooking abilities. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a supervising adult and should be included in the ticket of the adult attending.
