If you're looking for a bit of adventure for your older kids (aged 12+) then Southern Adventure Hub is a great option! Approximately 45 minutes drive south of Adelaide, near the McLaren Vale region it's located in a lovely bush setting, with plenty of shade and places to enjoy a picnic. The main features of this adventure space are the 9 metre 2 sided rock climbing wall and continuous high ropes course, and when we say high ropes, we really mean high ropes! We really enjoyed the challenge of the course, and the children's sense of pride on completion. The first few obstacles on the high ropes course were tricky, and the boys were a bit wobbly to start with. It didn't take long for the heart rate to slow though and they settled right in to the challenge. It was a great sense of accomplishment to get to the top of the 9 metre climbing tower and of course who doesn't love a zipline?! - what a thrill Sessions are 80 minutes each one session per day, with more scheduled in school holidays. Our suggestion would be to book ahead of time, and make sure the courses you want…

Adelaide Shorebird and Dolphin Festival The Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary is one of the gems of metropolitan Adelaide. Located only 20 minutes from Adelaide, this marine park is home to around 30 resident bottlenose dolphins, with another 400 transient dolphins that visit at various times. It’s one of the few places in the world where you can see wild dolphins living so close to a city – and it even gets the occasional visit from southern right whales and humpback whales. There’s plenty to keep a look-out for on your next visit to the sanctuary. Here’s a quick guide: Long-nosed fur seals (Arctocephalus forsteri) Southern eagle rays (Myliobatis tenuicaudatus) Australian sea lions (Neophoca cinerea) Mangroves Dolphins The Bird Sanctuary encompasses over 60km of coastline north of Adelaide, adjacent to Gulf St Vincent, Adelaide’s northern suburbs and spans across four local council areas. There is a lot to get through with this one, but it is totally worth it. For those with slightly older kids, this crew put on some of the most memorable experiences you can well.....experience.....in South Australia. We will cover all their options later, but firstly we have to spend some time talking about our trip down to the incredible Onkaparinga Gorge down on the fringes of McLaren Vale, where some really treasured memories were created with Miss 16 as we tackled the rock climbing and abseiling experience together. A bit of 'daddy-daughter' time if you will. Never rock climbed before? Not sure if you are fit enough? Honestly, you have nothing to fear so this experience absolutely applies to all fitness levels. They class this as a 'half-day' experience, but it probably is safer to leave the day open, because all up you won't get out until the early afternoon, by which point you will likely be sorer than that one time your mate dragged you to an F45 class. We were unlucky (or lucky?) enough to have some atrocious weather for our day, which in the end sort of added to the experience if we are honest. The…
