If there has ever been a product review I’ve desperately wanted to have a 5 star review for…..it’s this one.
My daughter has terrible eczema and has finally been approved to start Dupilumab…. Hooray!…….until she found out that this involves a course of injections over the next 12 months…..not so much hooray.
She’s really not keen for needles, which might be the case for a lot of kids these days. Injections and vaccinations have been a hot topic in the last few years. On TV, on screens and in lots of different conversations they might have heard. It’s no surprise that some kids have become quite anxious about them.
For some kids though they are necessary and in this case, we’re hoping, can be life changing.
One product came up when we asked around for advice on how to make a monthly needle less traumatic, and in almost every conversation with doctors, ED nurses and other parents the “Buzzy Bee” was mentioned as something to try to ease her needle fears.
A quick Google later and a scan a lot of 5 star reviews, a Buzzy4Shots was on the way to us
BUZZY is a small vibrating bee with blue ice-pack wings. He helps block sharp pain and provides distraction when giving injections or other medical procedures. Just like cool running water soothes a burn, Buzzy uses a combination of cold and vibration to replace pain with temperature and movement. It confuses your body’s own nerves and distracts attention away from the pain, thereby dulling or eliminating sharp injection pain. In the same way that rubbing a bumped elbow helps, or cold running water soothes a burn.
It’s VERY easy to use in just a few steps 1. Freese the Ice Wings and attach to Buzzy 2. Place Buzzy on the site of the injection for 30-60 seconds and right before the injection move it up around 3cms above the insertion point. It should go between the ‘pain and the brain’ 3. Keep Buzzy turned on for the whole time during the injection or blood draw procedure.
What can it be used for?
Buzzy can be used for any sort of procedure involving a needle. Blood draws, injections, vaccinations, heel injections, finger sticks cannulations and port access.
Did it work?
Unfortunately Buzzy didn’t arrive quite in time for her first injection which was a disaster. Despite being so brave the morning of, a longer than expected wait for the doctor to arrive meant way too much time to over think, and what should have taken 3 minutes took one hour. Complete with a 30 minute meltdown on the bathroom floor of the surgery. A truly horrible experience for both of us.
Visit number 2, we went armed with our Buzzy. Well rehearsed in how it works, where it will go and what it feels like. She sat in the chair and the next thing she asked was “has she done it yet?” but the needle was already out! Not one single tear, zero stress, zero pain. Actually…..she laughed! So the answer is yes…..it 100% worked.
If your kids, or even yourself have a needle phobia or for any doctors out there can I please suggest you take a look at a Buzzy4Shots. Such a simple product that can help turn a really stressful situation into something far less traumatic for kids and parents. Solid and very grateful 5 star review.
