Due to a fire in September 2022, Cafe Capella’s is currently only offering a temporary pop up location with pizza at the CopperClub In The Dunes venue in Port Hughes. Whenever you travel to a regional town, you always ask the locals “where is the best place for a feed”, which usually points you in the right direction. In the case of our Moonta trip, we were unanimously pointed to Café Capella’s for the best family feed, and boy we were not disappointed.
Easy to find, right in the heart of town on Main Street, with choices to dine in or take away on offer, we chose to dine inside – though on a warm day, the parklet seating outside would be perfect!). Now consider yourselves warned – the menu is HUGE. You’ll find everything from pasta, pizza, burgers, salads, mains, seafood, entrees, dessert AND a great drinks menu. Honestly, allow yourself a bit of time to peruse the menu because it took us a LONG time to decide.
In the end we went with bruschetta and sweet potato fries to start, risotto and a seafood basket for mains and lemon tart for dessert. The kids chose pasta and good ‘ol fish n chips – all of it was EXCELLENT and it came out so quickly.
For the kids, the menu offers and under 10s selection which is well priced at between $6 and $10 bucks, and includes most of the usual kid favourites. The staff also swiftly brought out kids colouring packs which are always a win with our two and kept them occupied while they were waiting for their food (which wasn’t long at all!).
Let’s talk about the staff and service. They were all so lovely and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble and all of the staff took time to talk with us, chat with the kids and help out with any questions we had. I casually mentioned that it was my husband’s birthday – next minute our dessert was being brought out with a candle in it – what a lovely touch!
The takeaway section is next door (also with an extensive menu) so if you’re camping or in a holiday house at Moonta and want to grab a pizza or hot chips, definitely head to Café Capella’s for a great feed to take back to your abode. We didn’t finish some of our meals as they were SO big and the staff gave us takeaway containers to take the rest home – I absolutely LOVE a ‘doggy bag’ so this was very exciting for me and I enjoyed the rest of my risotto the following day (and it still tasted just as good!).
When we were there, the restaurant was full of families so they are clearly doing something right! We will absolutely be back next time we are on the Copper Coast.

Did you know that Edithburgh on the Southern Yorke Peninsula is home to South Australia's only tidal pool? There are talks of building one at Hallett Cove (and we're here for it) but it's still a way off right? So, if you want to experience some tidal pool action how about a trip to 'The Burgh'? It's a two and a half hour drive from Adelaide CBD........Unless you're a realist and your kids are like mine needing to wee eleventy seven times, someone insists on stopping at Kiplings Bakery at Pt Wakefield, you have to drive up the look out at Ardrossan and the dog has a vom someweher near Stansbury. Allow three and a half. How fun are family road trips? Any way this pool is ace. It's entirely FREE and it's great for kids in all weather conditions. The pool itself is not too deep - perhaps a meter at it's deepest, until the tide comes in over the wall and then it can be a bit deeper. We recently did a huge 11 night trip to the Yorke Peninsula with the kids in tow - fantastic trip, but by the time we got to our second to last stop, we were running a bit low on the food we had packed when we left home and who has time for supermarket shopping on holiday? Enter, Grazing Yorkes! We got in touch with Emily and ordered a cheese platter box and a breakfast box and she delivered them direct to our accommodation so once we checked in, we could settle back with a drink and graze the afternoon away! How convenient and a little bit special too, which is what you want when you are having a weekend away right? It's such a dream, you can order these and have them delivered any where around the Copper Coast (small delivery fee may apply depending exactly where you want the boxes to show up - but Moonta, Wallaroo & Kadina are free!) The grazing box included several cheeses, crackers, dips, strawberries, cured meats and more. We loved it, the kids loved it and there was PLENTY - so much that we had enough for sunset nibbles the next night…
