Light for the Bight

Light for the Bight, is a free family friendly celebration to support World Heritage protection for the Nullarbor and Great Australian Bight. The Mirning Traditional Custodians will bring this spectacular twilight lantern parade of the Jeedara Creation story to life at the Semaphore Jetty on Saturday 14 October as part of the Nature Festival.
With so much to celebrate about this special part of the world, Light for the Bight welcomes everyone to come together and embrace the Nullarbor and Great Australian Bight’s ancient landscape and ocean beyond through an audio-visual experience that’s never been shared before.
It’s not just the scale of the Great Australian Bight that’s awe-inspiring—massive cliffs winding into the distance, a region where most of the lifeforms are found nowhere else on Earth. It’s also the Mirning people’s living connection to this incredible place. Mirning stories will narrate the magical lantern parade of Dreamtime Beings as they travel from Semaphore Jetty down on to the beach.
The Nullarbor and the Great Australian Bight have a long past, and by supporting World Heritage protection it helps make sure it has a living future.
