All aboard for the annual Mount Barker RailFest! This popular open day returns on Sunday, May 25, offering visitors a rare behind-the-scenes look at the operations of the world’s longest heritage railway.
Held at the Mount Barker depot, RailFest is packed with family-friendly fun, featuring live steamers on display, informative exhibits, restoration projects in action, a railway memorabilia market stall, and plenty of food and drink options.
Entry to the depot is just a $5 donation per person, with kids aged 4 and under free. All proceeds go directly towards the restoration and upkeep of the heritage locomotive and carriage fleet.
Visitors can also enjoy scenic heritage train rides between Mount Barker and Bugle Ranges, with two Rx steam locomotives hauling the train up and over Philcox Hill – the highest point on the line – before a diesel locomotive returns the train to Mount Barker.
Train departures: 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1:30pm & 2:30pm.
A must-visit event for train lovers, history buffs and families alike!
