SA’s own Hugh Sheridan returns for 2024 Carols
Local star Hugh Sheridan will once again grace the stage at Elder Park for the 80th St John Carols by Candlelight.
Hugh will be supported by many of our state’s best voices from Gospo Collective, Festival Statesmen Chorus and State Opera SA, backed up by the talented Dancers by Donna, Adelaide Concert Orchestra and Adelaide Philharmonic Chorus

Family favourite Emma Memma will be joining them to add her unique magic to the festivities for the 80th St John Carols by Candlelight. Emma Memma shared her excitement, saying, “I am absolutely delighted to be part of this year’s Carols. It’s such a special event that brings joy and warmth to so many families, and I can’t wait to share in the magic of the evening with everyone.”
It’s a special year for Adelaide’s beloved Carols by Candlelight, now rebranded as St John Carols by Candlelight. Celebrating its 80th anniversary, this iconic Christmas event will take place on Saturday, 14 December 2024, at Elder Park/Tarntanya Wama.
This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, offering families and friends an unforgettable evening of festive fun, music, and holiday cheer.
A Star-Studded Lineup
The night will feature performances from some of Australia’s favourite stars, including Emma Memma (formerly the Yellow Wiggle), the amazing Dami Im, and for the very first time, Australian music legend Mark Seymour will take to the stage, performing alongside his daughter Eva. Joining them will be Adelaide-born stage icon Hugh Sheridan, whose heartwarming carol performances are sure to bring people together. These talented artists will create a magical blend of classic carols and festive tunes, setting the perfect atmosphere for the season.
More artists will be announced on November 7 and 23, so stay tuned!
Pre-Show Fun and Spectacular Fireworks
The City of Adelaide Pre-Show concert will kick off the festivities at 5.00pm, offering plenty of entertainment before the main concert starts at 8.15pm. Families are encouraged to arrive early, pack a picnic, and enjoy the festive vibes. The evening will also have a spectacular fireworks display, lighting up the night sky and bringing the spirit of Christmas to life in the heart of Adelaide.
Can’t Make It? Watch from Home!
If you can’t make it to Elder Park, you can still enjoy the magic of St John Carols by Candlelight from the comfort of your home. The event will be broadcast nationally on Channel 7, with airings on 7Two and 7Plus on Sunday, 15 December 2024, as well as a special re-broadcast on Christmas Day.
There’s nothing better than celebrating the festive season, singing along to all your favourite Christmas carols with those you love. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Adelaide!
