This special time of year brings together the Victor Harbor and Fleurieu communities to honour our coastal and marine environments through a rich and diverse program of over 25 events.
From fascinating science talks and cultural storytelling to hands-on workshops, art experiences, and coastal adventures, the festival invites you to dive deep into the world of whales and the stories that connect us to sea and Country.

Welcoming of the Whales and Smoking Ceremony | Saturday 6 June, 10:00 am – 11:00 am| Warland Reserve
Celebrate the start of Winter Whale Fest with a short, meaningful ceremony as we welcome the whales back to their winter sanctuary. Local Elders will lead a Welcome to Country and a traditional smoking ceremony, offering speeches and blessings for the land, waters, and the month ahead.

Kick off the festival at this vibrant, family-friendly hub! The Expo features maritime talks, interactive workshops and kids’ activities, all while you browse the adjoining Artisan Market for unique, handcrafted goods and live music.

A highlight of the Winter Whale Fest, the Kondoli Lantern Parade is a breathtaking celebration of land, sea, and sky through light, story, and movement. Join the community as we light the night with hand-crafted lanterns, guided by the story of Kondoli the whale — a significant Ngarrindjeri creation story.
