Barossa Valley for Kids

The beautiful Barossa Valley is closer to the CBD than you think it is! Just over an hour drive from the city, straight up Main North Road or take the Northern Expressway and you’ll find yourself (and your family) at the gateway to some of South Australia’s best wineries! Now it’s not just for adults. There are plenty of kid friendly venues and things to do when you choose to spend a day (or even a whole weekend) in this stunning part of our state.

Plan your visit, get a map and make an itinerary of where you’d like to visit. Consider the time of year – Autumn and Spring are best, as it gets quite chilly in winter (although we went on a gorgeous sunny day in July!). Take some busy bags to keep the kids occupied when you need it, and of course the iPad never goes astray. Be sure you have a designated driver, and take a bottle of wine home with you to enjoy!

Kids in Adelaide acknowledges the Peramangk people, the Traditional Owners of Country throughout the Barossa Valley and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Located out at Lyndoch, under an hour from the CBD, this stunning estate offers a family friendly vibe that we find really hard to come across in what are usually adult...

Whispering Wall

Of all of the SA reservoirs, Barossa Reservoir with its famous ‘Whispering Wall’ is surely a favourite for kids. It doesn’t involve a big walk or hike and it is THE most magical experience to have one person whisper at the end of the reservoir wall and another hear it over 140 meters away on the other end. Better than milo tins on a string, and even better than the sound pipes in the Angaston Adventure Station (which are...
