You won’t ever regret taking the beautiful short stroll in to the centre of Adelaide’s Botanic Garden to Evergreen Deli with your kids, where families can experience the magic of nature and exceptional café food (inspired by the gardens) combined. You’ll quickly forget that you are in the heart of Adelaide City, and life will slow down for a little while.
Nestled amidst the lush greenery and vivid backdrop of the Gardens, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a delightful meal or a simple coffee break! Families will appreciate the inviting, fresh air atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and savor their time together while surrounded by all things good. There is plenty of room to easily maneuver a pram and the expansive alfresco dining ensures kids can move about and explore while waiting on their food and drinks. Additionally, you will find accessible bathroom amenities here for everyone.
While we love the coffee, the house made focaccia sandwiches and cold pressed juices are incredible, and last but certainly not least (probably our favourite) the granola gives ‘luxe honey crackle’ vibes and is so beautifully presented that it almost feels like a work of art. The kids menu is thoughtful (lids on their juices for example) and your preschoolers will be especially drawn to the whimsical and fun options like fairy bread, with its colorful sprinkles. Such a nostalgic treat that never fails to delight young diners. The babyccino, with its frothy, kid-friendly appeal and a marshmallow is a hit for little ones who enjoy a playful coffee experience.
As you might expect, Evergreen Deli is all about mindful practices to reduce the carbon footprint, and its wonderful to see the team prioritise the use of reusable, biodegradable, and compostable products.
Next time we return to the Botanic Garden, we look forward to pre ordering a Picnic Box from Evergreen Deli. You can then set out to find your favourite quiet spot and soak it all in with some high quality nosh. Picnic Boxes require 48 hours notice, sort your self out with more info or an order here.
The Botanic Gardens offer many fascinating educational experiences for children, featuring a myriad of unusual and intriguing plant species that ignite interest and learning. Located at the Schomburgk Pavilion, adjacent The Diggers Club and Information Centre – there is always something new to see when you visit. For more on the educational opportunities available in the gardens, you can explore this link.
With something to please everyone in the family, this hidden little gem of a spot ensures that a visit is both a culinary and visual treat, making it a much loved destination for all.
We usually either park on Plain Tree Drive and enter via the ‘Friends Gate’ or we park on the city fringe and catch the free tram along North Terrace to the ‘Main Gate’ – either way access is easy and pram friendly.
It's no secret that here at Kids In Adelaide we love somewhere free. Well, the Adelaide Botanic Garden surely has to be the ultimate FREE spot to enjoy with your kids! It's a great place to pop in just for an hour or to spend a full day. Plus it's even better now that the Tram line runs from the Adelaide Train Station straight down to the Botanic Garden gate. So forget about parking, jump onto the Tram & enjoy what the Botanic Garden has to offer! There are about five different entry gates to the Garden (check out the map here) & all will take you on a meandering path through gardens of different styles, species and purposes. Enter through the Gingko Gate & you will first come across the Garden of Health which features plants used around the world for pharmacy, medicinal & healing purposes. Be sure to lookout for the rainbow lorikeets frolicking in the water fountain! Keep wandering & you will also find gardens dedicated to roses, native plants, wetlands, dahlias & more. Make sure you quite literally take time to stop & smell the roses! Kids will love running underneath the wisteria arbours, as well…
Located about 10 minutes up the freeway, not far from the beautiful Mount Lofty house lie the stunning Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens. Spread over 97 hectares containing accessible paths and trails for all ages and abilities these gardens are sure to be a hit with the whole family. One of our favourite trails is the lakeside trail, which is a 1 kilometre loop around the main lake that has 8 artworks each with a different theme, this one is perfect for young families. There is also loads of wildlife in the gardens including birds, butterflies, kangaroos, koalas and the Southern brown bandicoot so its perfect for the little animal lovers. There is tons to see and do with 8 different gullies to explore, each with a different theme, 4 walking trails, the stunning heritage rose garden and sculptures and artworks scattered throughout the garden. If trails aren't your thing, there is plenty of open space to let the kids run free and also plenty of spots that you can sit and take it all in (perfect for a picnic). We love that throughout the year the gardens completely change with a visit in summer being completely different to a visit…
Find it at: Shepherds Hill Road, Blackwood Huge news for the new year with work finished on a new nature play space at the Wittunga Botanic Garden! The play space is a fun way for children to learn about the environment and has been designed with help from local primary school students. We popped down for a visit after the opening (to be honest we have been popping in to watch the build progress as well!) and we had a ball! We loved exploring the unique nature play items, climbing the rocks and logs, whilst the unique play equipment was great for the kids to climb on and spend all that energy. The kids also loved hiding in the very cute nut cubbies, playing in the nest swing and of course the in-ground trampolines. But the real winner here was the Giant Chair. Such a simple idea but it was just so much fun! Just goes to show you don't always need a million bucks to make a playground special doesn't it. There are toilets (not quite at the playground but a short walk away), water drinking fountain and tables for your picnics. The playground is accessible for most, but there…
