Looking for some green space and a playground in Norwood to take a break and entertain the little ones? James Coke Park is a great destination. Tucked behind Norwood Mall with easy parking, it’s safe, shady and fun for all.

James Coke Park Playground is a simply gorgeous green space guaranteed to please the whole family. Redeveloped a couple of years ago, the park is a safe, fully fenced and shaded space tucked in behind Norwood Mall – the perfect spot for a picnic.

There’s something for all younger ages at James Coke Park, with play equipment and space suitable for crawlers and toddlers right up to school aged kids (best suits 1-7). Playground facilities include a double see-saw/rocker, drums and music making equipment, swings (including toddler size), climbing apparatus and slides. All equipment is on rubber matting for soft falls.

Within the fenced area there’s also plenty of room for imaginary play, with lawn space, garden beds and park benches, plus picnic tables undercover. If you’re happy to sit outside the fenced area, there are more park benches and lush lawn, with summer shade from date palms. The playground’s location behind Norwood Mall is ideal. There’s plenty of easy parking and the Mall is conveniently close for toilet breaks or for additional snacks, ice cream, treats or a much deserved cup of coffee.

  • Where: Hartley Road Flinders Park A nice little playground with enough equipment choice to keep the kids busy for a few minutes at least! It could do with a few extra features as it has no fence, no shade (apart from some nearby trees), no water fountains, no seating and no BBQ. The toilet is only at the nearby footy club, so if that is closed then you are out of luck too. But it does have a cool little wooden boat, a huge nest swing and a heap of regular swings (including one for the toddlers). A good spot for the locals and with the nearby oval, plenty of space for everyone to run around (sadly due to the lack of seating parents will also have to run around as well. Soz.) Hartley Road is fairly busy so keep a watchful eye on the kids at this one.

  • Where: Mitchell Street, Millswood Wow what a fabulous toddler playground this spot is. It is fully fenced, with sensational shade from both the shade sails and the beautiful big trees (probably gum trees...all big trees are gum trees right?). With lots of lovely toddler orientated equipment, a little bike/scooter track around the perimeter and lots of seating, I can't remember feeling so relaxed at a playground! It really was such a nice spot. Kids love playing on the climbing walls, and there's plenty of grassed area for them to run around and enjoy themselves. The giant tyre swing is probably the most sought after piece of equipment and the park is shaded, with space for ball games and even a tennis court and basketball ring too! There is a range of equipment for all ages from toddlers to older kids, and good paths nearby for walking and bike-riding.  Not only that, the playground is fully fenced and it has a good sized carpark and toilets close by. If you want to pack a picnic, there are picnic tables and BBQ's as well as grassy areas to sit under the shade of the gum trees.  The park allows dogs on leash and there is a…

  • We love a cracking regional playground and this one is a beauty. Located on the corner of Eighteenth Street and Renmark Ave, this multi-purpose play space has plenty of parking, is close to large undercover BBQ facilities which overlooks the playground, (and is also undercover) which is suitable for toddlers to teens! The playground has swings, slides, lot of climbing equipment for the avid ninjas in your crew and best of all it is all under cover! On other side of playground you will find large dirt mounds and jumps created for the bike enthusiast kids. On the opposite side of the BBQ facility is skate park for the scooters and skaters in the family. Oh did we mention it has toilets! (Yes!)With a large grassed area for footy kicking or kiss chasey, plenty of seating scattered around the park and close to the local shops (across the road from Woolworths and Big W shopping Centre for bribes snacks and treats), this is a must stop on your Riverland road trip.Best coffee shop in town is a stones throw away opposite the roundabout - Arrosto Coffee.
