If an exceptional quality, family-friendly brunch is your thing, everyone in your clan will love the Kitchen Farm Pantry in Newenham Estate, Mt Barker. Here you will find hectares of underutilized Adelaide Hills land being transformed into a sustainable, productive farm that supplies produce to the Pantry and Nursery Store, setting an example for combining food production with community care. The goal is to create a model for how sustainable farming can work within a residential area, and we love that.

The kids’ menu is notably cute, making it clear that children are very much welcome.

The café embraces a paddock-to-plate philosophy and features an adjoining humble nursery with a range of plants that can be sold to the community.

We loved the cosy fire for winter, plus there’s also a huge barn and kids play corner to explore and plenty of space to run around. In summer, think of a cool hills breeze under umbrellas and shady trees. After you eat, check out the street style library box behind the main building for a very unexpected surprise!

Kitchen Farm Pantry in The Adelaide Hills is all about celebrating local produce and supporting the community. It has a beautiful focus on connecting people with nature. The Pantry itself, set in a charmingly restored barn and garage, is a family-friendly café and event space. It’s a place where you can relax, enjoy delicious meals made from locally sourced ingredients, and connect with others. With zero waste principals in mind, the Pantry promotes sustainable living and supports local farmers and artisans who use permaculture practices.

Naturally, the menu at Kitchen Farm Pantry Café shifts with the availability of fresh ingredients, but you can always count on enjoying dishes that reflect honest, seasonal cooking. It’s “real food” and it’s absolutely delicious! Try the Pumpkin Toast topped with buffalo curd, fermented green tomatoes, smoked macadamias, and pepper-berry dukkha, OR the Farmers Plate, featuring bacon, pork and fennel sausage, sourdough, eggs of your choice, and a selection of fresh vegetables. The kids’ menu is just as delightful, with favourites like dippy eggs, fluffy pancakes, crunchy granola, and delicious croissants. Simple but always packed with flavour and goodness!

What a perfect spot to eat and educate the kids!

  • Find it at: Adelaide Road, Mount Barker Keith Stephenson Park had been upgraded and re-opened in December 2023! Keith Stephenson Park is the premier district reserve for the Council area. It hosts major events such as carols by candlelight and is a meeting place for families across the district. It is located on the Laratinga Trail, a shared use path that is the spine of the open space network and links as far as Newnham Estate and the Summit Sport and Recreation Park. The play space upgrade on Keith Stephenson Park has a focus on inclusivity, with ‘something for everyone’ as one of the key principles behind the design. This includes integrating nature play experiences with more traditional constructed play equipment. Analysis undertaken by Council and early engagement with local parents of children with disabilities has shown that there is currently a gap in the district wide open space network for these user groups. The upgrade also aims to bring the level of the playground in line with the parks district status and contemporary thinking around playgrounds. We love the surface underfoot for toddlers, elderly grandparents and any one with mobility challenges. Well played. Also noteworthy, they have installed several…
