Schnithouse – Hilton

Family Friendly Eats

Schnithouse at Hilton is a perfect place to book a family meal, catch up or celebration when you have kids in tow. Open 7 days a week (that can be hard to find….), expect a family restaurant, but also with an authentic beer house feel to it. Talking to owner Frank, this is exactly what he wanted to offer….quality fresh food, a full bar experience if that is what you are after, but also welcoming and highly appropriate for families.

We LOVED the outdoor beer garden (it felt very German) and epic kids playground. Given these guys open daily from 11am, it would make a great place to celebrate a kids birthday party! Ask nicely and they might even put Bluey or Peppa Pig (damn I hate that pig) on the big screen.

The menu is extensive. By extensive we mean HUGE and nope it’s not just schnitzels, although they do have every kind imaginable, and that’s what we chose to eat on our recent visit. Let it be noted: the schnitzels *did not disappoint*, they were fantastic. All of the food at Schnithouse is made fresh, some even using recipes passed down generations. No frozen or pre-crumbed schnittys (or anything for that matter) here.

The meals are very large. I mean sure, get the onion rings, wings or garlic bread for starters, they are epic…….. but you will possibly regret it when you are half way through your main course.

Our kids meals came with a drink and gelati, because of course they did. (We don’t feature places that don’t ‘do’ kids exceptionally well.) The entire menu is affordable, giving this place another massive tick for families, and we love that they have a great range of daily specials for some extra value.

For those with kids younger than ours, good to know the restaurant is spacious, allowing plenty of room for prams and highchairs both indoors or out.

Finally, we love that they make a quality coffee and have a beautiful cake fridge as well. With a large supermarket and shopping centre across the car park – we can see how this would be a great pit stop (bribery stop?) pre or post grocery shopping.

  • A South Australian icon for more than 55 years, the Pancake Kitchen always makes me nostalgic for my childhood. It was so exciting to head to that nook of Gilbert St & be allowed to eat pancakes for dinner! I can still smell the maple syrup & remember looking at the menu wondering who on earth would eat bacon on pancakes (adult me, that's who). Does anyone else remember the jukebox out in the back room? The original Spotify! It may have changed a bit since then, but The Original Pancake Kitchen is still a hit with kids & makes the perfect family dining spot. It is also now in THREE different locations across Adelaide. The original Gilbert St restaurant has had little pancake babies (pikelets?) & is now also found in Modbury & now inside the Marion Cultural Centre. Of course, it goes without saying that the pancakes are amazing. There are so many different options to choose from including sweet & savory options in small, regular or tall stacks. If pancakes aren't your thing, you can grab something from the all-day breakfast menu or is you need some meat on your plate, Pancake Kitchens also double as a…

  • At a quick glance, you might think that West Beach Patisserie & Eatery is only for guests staying at the Big4 in West Beach Parks, but we are here to tell you that it is OPEN to the public, 7 days a week and your family are going to love some of the best coffee, food and hospitality going around! Legitimately, every thing this talented family touch in the hospitality space, turns to gold. Trust us, we have been following these legends around for a good few years now. You are going to feel like you are a resort guest far far away (minus the exorbitant resort prices) as you sit amongst the potted palms, greenery and white umbrellas, sipping a brunch champagne and devouring your eggs benedict. The car park and venue entrance are very simply accessed from Military Road - no need to actually enter the park at all! The small on site playground will keep young kids occupied while they wait for their food, and when it does come, sitting out doors is just the best this time of year and with kids in tow. Something about more space around you and less venue noise plus the…

  • Here at Kids In Adelaide, we love a cafe that just gets it right - good service, good, food, good beverages and somewhere for the kids to play. Thankfully, Cantina61 at Seaford Rise ticks all the boxes! Under new ownership since April 2022, the team have been working hard to deliver a place you can go with family or friends and just enjoy yourselves and their great food! One of the first thing the new owners did was create a kids play area inside - surrounded by lounges and large tables for groups of parents to gather, the kids will stay occupied with drawing and toys while you indulge in some much needed adult conversation! If the weather is nice, you can opt to sit outside - the cafe is set far back enough from the road that you won't need to stress. If you are sitting outside, feel free to bring your dog along too - yep Cantina61 is pet-friendly and also offer pet biscuits and FREE puppacinos! Onto the menu and WOW, what a menu it is! You'll find breakfast favourites, through to nachos, schnitzels, burgers, veggie stacks and HEAPS MORE. The kids are well looked after with…
