Shepherds Hill Recreation Park Bike Tracks have a great variety of tracks to suits a range of abilities. We took the kids there recently and they loved the beginner bike park, BMX track and pump track as well as the off road trails through the hills.

The Bowl area is just off the Ayliffe’s Road carpark and houses the beginner (very small) and intermediate pump tracks with a range of jumps and tracks to suit riders from very new to pretty good. Out smaller kids love the bigger jumps, which they can handle ok but they do enjoy seeing the older riders get some great air from them when they are riding too.

One of the things we love most about this park is that it has a really good beginners bike park/jump track where learning riders can stretch their legs into something more adventurous all while on a pretty flat track, with softfall edges all around. The pic above and below are both from this kids area track and are a big hit in our family.

The views are also wonderful, with some views all the way to Adelaide CBD and the coast so don’t forget to stop and enjoy it every now and again when there!

This is one of the better areas to take beginner riders to get used to riding on dirt tracks and inclined trails and our family love finding all the little tracks running through the area and getting the hang off hitting the little drops, tree roots and even a creek crossing.

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week but closed on days of Catastrophic Fire Danger and may be closed on days of Extreme Fire Danger. A horse riding and Archery club are located in the park and cars do have access on the gravel roads so please take care on or near those areas.
Shepherds Hill Recreation Park is located 11km south of Adelaide. Access is via Ayliffes Road, St Marys and Ellis Avenue, Eden Hills. We park in the carpark off Ayliffes Road and the beginner bike park, pump track and kids area is directly next to the carpark (see the signs). Download the park map here before you go

  • The Bower Road Bike Park is located at the Aquatic Reserve In West Lakes Shores on the corner of Old Port Road and Bower Road.  We found it particularly good for advanced riders as we haven’t seen many other bike parks of this level in SA. If you want something to compare it against and you’re familiar with the track off Greenhill/Unley roads in the CBD then this Bower Road Bike Park is more suited to riders of the CBD’s intermediate and (often closed) advanced tracks. The location has been used as a BMX track, however over the last decade the track has not had the attention it received in years gone by. In 2013 a group of local residents school groups and the Charles Sturt Council got together to start discussing ways to improve the park and redevelop it to provide a fully functioning bike park that was as good as the facilities being developed overseas and in other parts of Australia. Through the efforts of volunteers in collaboration with the council the park currently has a kids BMX track, an advanced BMX track, Dirt Jumps and a Pump Track. Our confident 5-6 year old bike riders are comfortable…

  • Find it at: Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill A great spot for a family walk, bike ride, picnic or even better just a good old fashioned ADVENTURE. While there are no formal walking tracks, it's very easy to follow the numerous fire access tracks located in the park. Please be aware that these tracks are shared with bikes, horses, dogs (on leash) and walkers so make sure your kids know to stay aware and look up! There's lots of grassy hills, gullies, trees to climb, big rocks to balance on and some great views of the city too! You can very easily spend a few hours here just exploring. See if you can find the "50 shades of clay" or Aslans stone table! (we think we found it) If bikes are more your thing there are over 8kms of mountain bike trails to try ranging from easy family friendly to intermediate and advanced with some great downhill sections for older kids and better riders. You can enter the park from two main public access points along Majors Road, close to Ocean Boulevard and opposite the southern portion of the old Morphett Road.

  • What a great adventure! Blackwood Forest Recreation Park is a fantastic suburban park located in Hawthorndene, just 12 kms from the Adelaide CBD The most striking feature of this park is the huge pine forest that is a great place for kids to explore. Lots of little cubbies and huts throughout to climb in and on, swings, creek, blackberries, mud and trees to climb too! Surprises around every corner. It's a popular spot for walking, jogging, horse riding, bike riding and off leash dogs so you'll need to share the space with others. There are quite a few nearby cafes and bakeries if you want to stop and get a cuppa or snack on the way and be aware there are no toilets so make sure you take care of business before you arrive.
