The Dal. You guys are going to LOVE this country pub. It’s the best we can find on the entire Yorke Peninsula and it’s surely gotta be right up there for best on ground in regional SA. Yep, I’m talking a big game, and they bring it, 7 days a week, water front views and incredibly welcoming for families with some great initiatives for kids.
The menu at ‘The Dal’ offers some pub classics (done exceptionally well) alongside some unexpected (because it is a country pub) blow your head off tasty restaurant quality options. We started with some share plates – think Pork Belly Bao, Harvey Bay Scallops + Duck Sliders and the star of our mains were a mix of plant based meals, classic pub fair and a beautiful caramelised pork belly with apple and mint salad. There is always a daily specials board and the menu changes seasonally, but features the highest quality fresh produce including South Australian Seafood and Local Oysters. They also do the regions best pizza. Show me a better one.
The kids are spoilt for choice, with decent sized servings of quality fare accompanied by salad and chips. Save room for a trendy little Sundae in a jar with topping and sprinkles. We particularly love the kids salt & pepper squid, the pizzas and the generous chicken schnitzel.
Enough about the epic food though (thanks Chef Will Glazbrook and Kitchen team)….. THE VIEWS! This is mere meters from the beach. You can eat casually out on ‘The Deck’ overlooking the beautiful Stansbury Bay, or choose the dining room (also with spectacular water views). Additionally there is also a casual beer garden at the back of the venue. Insider tip, ask for a table near the play room. It’s a lovely colourful space featuring a chalk board, wall mural, some toys and play kitchen as well as a lucky dip machine and skill tester (take a few gold bribery coins.)
The Dal offers take away, and a solid favourite of ours is their famous fish and chip cones. Grab one and take it 20m directly over to the beach front, or 150m up to the lovely grassy foreshore playground. The cones are BIG and we generally share two or three between four of us.
It’s worth noting that Stansbury is a small town (purrrrfect for family holidays and weekends), I think that’s why this pub is such a surprise packet, but on any weekend, holidays and special events, this place is busy. Make sure you book, and in advance – don’t expect a same day booking in the middle of summer holidays or a long weekend. Not today Bruce.

What is a cowie.....? Great question and you can find out the answers behind the name of this business + a bit of local knowledge when you visit this epic family friendly BELTER of a craft brewery. Located in Minlaton on the Yorke Peninsula about two and a half hours from Adelaide, you'll find your self surrounded by the wholesome goodness of many, many Yorke Peninsula activities and attractions that are great with kids and even better washed down with one of these beers. You will love the casual, funky, relaxed open air feel of this 'beer shed' (Can we call it a beer shed?) With loads of indoor seating, a cosy fireplace and plenty of outdoor tables too. It feels like a bit of a hub for the community, but also a solid asset to local tourism. There's no kitchen at this brewery, but check in with the Watsacowie website, or social media accounts, as they often have the best of the local food trucks serving up top beer nosh. We fully lucked it with YP Wood Oven Pizzas on our visit and that sure kept the kids happy so as Dad (that's me) could enjoy his exceptional (and…
Its no secret we love a bakery. In fact hitting up a bakery whenever we travel literally anywhere, occurs so often it can be classed as a hobby. So when we spent the morning at the beautiful central Yorke Peninsula town of Minlaton, we went to where the locals go, the Minlaton Bakery. Located on the Main Street (you really can't miss it), we found it to be ideal spot to fuel up a mid morning treat before having a crack at the awesome Minlaton Playground, just down the road. But what to eat? The eternal bakery dilemma. Generally, a bakery is judged on their chocolate donuts and meat pies, which we can comfortably say (bearing in mind we also review a LOT of donuts....check out some of our faves here) that they are top notch on both counts. Freshly baked, plenty of stock, heaps of variety (without getting too freaky with insta photo op donuts you can't actually properly eat) and lots of space to sit down inside and enjoy your meal with the fam. Did we mention the coffee? Because you never quite know what you are going to get with country bakery coffee do you....will it be…
