There’s picnics, and then there’s picnics at The Lane Vineyard. Tucked away amongst the rolling Adelaide Hills vines, this is your excuse to slow down, soak up the scenery and pretend you’ve got your life together for an afternoon. Follow the walking map to discover your own little slice of the estate, with private picnic spots nestled amongst ancient gum trees and sweeping vineyard views. A glass of Hills wine in hand? Well, that’s just a bonus. The kids can explore and they are well catered for too!
Let us tell you about the food….. Forget soggy sandwiches and a bag of chips thrown in the esky. The Lane’s seasonal, chef-prepared picnic hampers are currently $120 for two adults (don’t forget to pre order your wine too), and honestly, there was more delicious gourmet food than we could ever have gotten through! The kids aren’t forgotten either, with epic kids’ lunch boxes for $25 each, including a drink and dessert. It’s a lovely way to get the whole family unplugged and outdoors among the vines without anyone feeling like they’ve drawn the short straw on lunch.
Available Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s and seven days a week during Spring and Summer school holidays. These estate picnics are made for sunny afternoons with your favourite people. Whether you’re planning a family outing, a long-overdue catch-up with friends or a date with a difference, choose your spot, unpack your hamper and let the Hills do their thing. Just remember to book ahead, because a private vineyard picnic with delicious food and gorgeous views? That’s a pretty special way to spend an afternoon.

Looking for the perfect Barossa Valley blend of wine tasting and family fun? Nestled amidst rolling hills and lush vineyards, Whistler Wines is a hidden gem that provides both of those to family friendly perfection. Picnic spots don't get much better than this and it's all available for you to order onsite. Build your own perfect platter, tailored precisely to your families taste buds. Take a look at the platter menu and choose from a range of artisan cheeses, cured meats, pâtés and condiments. We loved the obvious focus on supporting local South Australian brands and enjoyed our platter immensely. For the kids, the specially crafted kids snack pack is a total winner. For just 10 bucks they'll get a Le Snack, Sultanas, fruit bar, lollypop and a juice. It’s almost like a mini showbag, although I must admit, it didn’t stop our kids from stealing our food once they where done. Please note: BYO picnics / food NOT permitted and while on the topic of things not to bring, on this occasion please leave your doggo's at home due to the orphan kangaroo and other abundant wildlife. Our favourite part of Whistler Wines is without a doubt, the stunning location.…
We may have just found Adelaide's most charming, family friendly spot to eat, that caters to both parents and kids. White Picket Coffee House, on the Eastern city fringe, serves up some brilliant kid-friendly menu options in a spacious setting with a choice of indoor tables, enclosed verandah tables, or our favourite, the rear courtyard/ garden setting complete with a sweet little cottage style cubby house! I think the fact that the rear courtyard had every table filled while we were there really shows how much of a winner this place is! The coffee here is top-notch. Each cup is brewed to perfection using quality beans, leaving you with that rich and satisfying taste we all crave. Plus, their breakfast, brunch, and lunch options are to die for! With initiatives like "Pasta Fridays", it's the perfect way to end the week. On top of that, their ready-made meals to collect for dinner or work lunches are a godsend, making busy weekdays a breeze. Parents, you'll be thrilled to know that they've got your little ones covered too. The kids' hot chocolates are made to perfection - just the right temperature to keep those tiny taste buds happy. And speaking of…
If you’re searching for a family-friendly winery in McLaren Vale with incredible views, space for kids to roam, and a memorable food and wine offering, Dandelion Vineyards’ Wonder Room is an absolute standout. Officially opened in late 2023, this stunning newish cellar door blends relaxed luxury with award-winning wines and genuine family-friendly hospitality, making it one of the region’s most impressive spots to visit with kids. We made our way here on e-bikes from SA eBikes (highly recommend!, rolling straight into one of the best picnics we’ve ever experienced. Their picnics must be booked a couple of days in advance, but trust us, they are worth every second of planning. Think boho cushions scattered across the lawns, beautifully curated hampers packed with local produce, and panoramic views stretching over Firehawk Farm, the Willunga escarpment and out to the Gulf. Meanwhile, the kids were in their element, running across the huge lawns, playing lawn games and enjoying all the open space right in front of us. Inside the Wonder Room (probably more geared to adult visits) you’ll find a gorgeous tasting space offering guided wine flights featuring Dandelion’s wines from McLaren Vale, Barossa and the Adelaide Hills. Outdoors, families can spread…
