Marion Holiday Park really is a kids paradise and to think its tucked away so close to the CBD is mind blowing! Featuring a waterpark, 45m lagoon pool, indoor heated pool, adventure playground and indoor tennis court and games room, it really does have it all! But parents haven’t been forgotten about, they have delicious coffee, breakfast and lunch items served from 8am to 4pm and dinner is served nightly in our outdoor bar, cinema and kitchen area which means parents don’t have to cook throughout their entire stay! And at night as the sun sets behind the old gum tree, the family friendly movies come on in the outdoor cinema area where families can come together at the end of the day and enjoy some entertainment snuggled in the comfy bean bags or padded booths. Marion Holiday Park really is Adelaide’s Hidden Gem!
It’s more than just a standard holiday park, it’s a resort…. in Adelaide…. so no need for passports, expensive flights and hire cars, it really has that resort style feel right here at home.
You know a place is good when you are planning your next visit before you even leave. It is that kind of place.
Here are 10 great reasons to check out of the day-to-day and check into a fabulous vacay at Marion Holiday Park.
1. The Palms
Move over Palm Springs. Marion has their own Palms and it was so surprising to see the end result of this feature at the resort. The Palms has a fab outdoor cinema screening a great mix of new and old favourites for the kids while lounging in the comfy bean bags or booths. Stroll over to the beer garden with chic booths to have a meal or grab a snack and cocktails…. sorry…. refreshments. It was SO SO good to just relax knowing the kids were occupied. Well Played Marion Holiday Park. Well Played.
2.In or Out
Say hello to the beautiful 45m lagoon pool which screams “come play” and you would think you’re in Hawaii or even Phuket. It is solar heated which means outside of Summer the chill has been taken off, but it isn’t a hot tub by any means. However on the sunny April days during our visit by lunch time it was really lovely. A rarity in Adelaide to have both options for swimming in the one place and didn’t have the kids feel they missed out because it was too cold. Happy kids. Happy parents. If you have dare devils who want to swim year round… wetsuits are available at the information kiosk.
3. Water Park
Hours of entertainment at the water park are to be had! At this point I am thinking two nights next time… one is just not enough. Waterslides, a huge splash bucket and great hiding spots for water play. The Lagoon Units are the best location to stay on to watch the kids enjoy hours of splash time!
4. Adventure Playground
Kids will LOVE the Adventure Playground and bouncing pillow (shaded!). With multiple levels, slides, swings and climbing walls, the Adventure Playground is the perfect spot for a play and challenge for the kids. These are conveniently located behind the Lagoon units where we stayed, so the kids only had a 10 metre walk to our home base.
5. Don’t Bring a Thing
We love that you do not have to pack or think of everything to bring. Towels – sorted! Baby gates – sorted! Wet Suits for hire – sorted. Equipment for hire – sorted! Kitchen appliances – sorted!
7. Food at Your Finger Tips
Don’t make the mistake of leaving the park and scouting a restaurant for dinner. WRONG! Stay in your gorgeous pad and order yourself a meal from the Palms ! Go for a walk – collect and enjoy on your balcony overlooking the pool! The café is open 7 days 8am – 4pm providing breakfast, coffee and lunch needs as well as The Palms being open every night for dinner. Plus they stock all the basics in the reception area so all food requirements are covered. Oh and the coffee is spot on which is very important information because with the action packed days, you will need it!
I also love ordering the breakfast basket which has everything you need to cook a yummy breakfast – eggs, bacon, fresh bread, cereal… easy peasy.
8. Games and More Games
We did a quick stop at the Games room (yes, a games room too!). The kids (and maybe some of us “big kids”) can’t possibly get bored at this place. There is even mini bowling now too! Big couches where adults can relax and the kids can have some video game fun. If you’ve had enough of relaxing there’s also a pool table, table tennis, basketball hoop & even an indoor tennis court next door with equipment for hire from reception. Great for a rainy day should you encounter one. For the history books to record, the adults beat the overly confident teens at tennis. Just head to the kiosk and book your session so you don’t miss out.
9. Explore
Get back to nature in Marion Holiday Park’s surrounds – a beautiful nature creek! An adventure around every corner! Behind the centre is the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre too which has some superb scenery and history to explore.
10. Stylish pads
The accommodation is superb. We stayed in a fully serviced Lagoon Cabin opposite the Deluxe Poolside Villa and it was stunning! Spectacular views off our private deck (with BBQ) and our very own pool access gate (accessible by only us). The rooms were spacious, updated and with all the trimmings you could want. They do cost on the higher side, but with a range of options to suit all budgets, plus the ability to share with other families to reduce cost, it is very manageable to find accommodation to suit everyone.
We must say we do love the use of the swipe wrist band system, rather than a traditional cabin key. Your set of wrist bands will grant you access to your accommodation, private pool gate and all the entry areas around the park. It was so handy not having to remember a key, simply whack on your wrist band and you are set!
