If you answered YES to any of the above, then it is time to take a drive down the Fleurieu Peninsula to Smiling Samoyed Brewery at Myponga. It is situated right on the Myponga Reservoir and it is one of our favourite spots to hang out with the family while enjoying a great meal.
Smiling Samoyed Brewery is open 7 days a week and have their pizza oven firing everyday. So there’s no need to wait until a weekend, head down there anytime for a great meal. You’ll be greeted by the stars of the show – Kent and Hoppy, their two GORGEOUS white samoyed dogs who lap up the attention of all the guests.
There is an outdoor playground, perfect to keep the kids entertained while they wait for their food. It’s a decent sized playground too, definitely not an afterthought. Our kids loved playing “houses” on the playground and our three year old learnt how to slide down the fire pole – so much fun!
If it is too wet or too hot to be outside on the playground, don’t worry – the lovely Smiling Samoyed staff will happily fetch some colouring sheets and pencils to keep the kids entertained.
Onto the menu – as we mentioned, the wood oven is busy firing pizzas everyday with some delicious traditional pizzas available, along with some quirky options (kangaroo pizza, anyone?). The rest of the menus is impressive with smaller snacks such as arancini balls, onion rings and tempura cauliflower through to the DELICIOUS desserts. Our tip? Have the Dark Ale Brownie. YUM. Local produce shines throughout the extensive menu.
The drinks list is also extensive, with beer tasting paddles available to sample the Smiling Samoyed beers, along with local wines, spirits, juices and soft drinks. Seriously, settle in for an afternoon here, relax and try a bit of everything while the kids play. You won’t be disappointed!
Make a real day of it and leave time for a walk around the Myponga Reservoir before or after your visit to Smiling Samoyed Brewery. We can guarantee that you will leave with a full belly and a full heart after seeing the kids pat the dogs and have the BEST time on the playground.

Find it at: Main Street in Myponga Myponga Nature Playground opened in mid 2018 and was a very welcome addition to the local area. This is another nature themed playground from the folks at Nature Play Landscaping who are behind some of our other favourite playgrounds including the new one at Point Turton The park has lots of wooden and rope climbing features, swings, wooden monkey bars/climbing ladder and a nice big sandpit. A beautiful spot to stop for a play and it's located on the main street of Myponga right between a bakery and take away shop, cant go wrong with that! It's fully fenced, there's a BBQ and the large shady trees surrounding the park make up for no shade sail (trees are way better anyway) There's also no toilets on site, but there are public toilets across the road, maybe 400m walk away. Check out the Myponga markets across the road open 9:30 am until 4:00pm Saturdays, Sundays and most Public Holidays and it's also not far to the Myponga Reservoir Reserve. A great spot to start your day/weekend/stay in McLaren Vale the Visitor Centre has all the information you need on where to visit, eat and of course sample some wine. It also has a fabulous playground in a beautiful big open grassy space overlooking the vineyards.
