Tights, leggings, yoga pants, active wear…… it doesn’t matter what you call them I think we all grew extra fond of our comfiest pair of stretchy pants during COVID lockdown in 2020.
BUT not all tights are created equal. Is there anything more annoying than a waistband that doesn’t stay put or the feeling of dread wondering if your new pair of workout tights are going to give you a 🐪🦶 not be squat proof or sweat in the spots you really don’t want to show you’re sweating.

We contacted a few of our tried and tested favourite brands as well as a few new ones we were recommended to try out their latest styles and designs. We shared them around the KiA team which is made up of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels and here’s what we found.

Abi & Joseph

I have a confession. I own FIVE pairs of Abi & Joseph tights, in all lengths, colours and designs. I’m obsessed. I am short and size 12-14 and the size L fits me perfectly.

The cut, the material and the waistband on these tights feel so good on. They have great size pockets that don’t feel bulky, they don’t roll up at the leg or down at the waist and I LOVE the different designs they come out with.

I’m wearing the Coloured Paisley Dual Pocket Full Length Tight here which are a touch long for my short legs (I’m only 165cms) so go for a 7/8 if you’re vertically challenged like me. My favourite are the mid thigh tights, especially coming into summer which are availble in some really great designs as well as plain colours if you’re not into colourful legs.

I also love that this brand have a really easy returns policy which is really important for online stores, they’ll even cover your return postage costs when you choose a credit or exchange so you can find the right size and fit for you.

Active Truth

Most of the KiA team have owned at least one pair of Active Truth tights, they’re THAT good. This time around Fleur (size M 175cms) and brand spanking new mum Ash (size L 165cm) gave the 7/8 smart pocket tights a try and of course, loved them. One word. POCKETS!

The fit of this brand is always good. They are snug to pull on and then fit like a glove. The high waist band keeps them in position & the material ensures they’re squat proof and great for post C-section tummy.

Active truth tights are a brand for all women, which is important to us. We love their philosophy, which embraces women of any size. Because, duh, women ARE any size. Fleur and Ash wore these tights running, at Pilates, gym and for hours of hanging washing on the line, rocking a baby to sleep and pushing the pram around. They honestly can’t be faulted.

Great tights for mums and soon to be mums. Check out their maternity tights if you’re pregnant!

Run Faster

The two most vertically challenged members of the KiA team tried two styles from Sydney based brand Run Faster. I’d actually never heard of these guys until now and more women need to know about this great brand who cater for a huge range of bodies in all shapes and sizes. Most of their range starts at XS and goes up to a 3XL which is fantastic. This is another brand who do a great print but they also nail the basic black.

Most styles come with pockets and have a very very good high waistband that goes up, and properly stays up. These are a bit thicker that some of the other brands which we both really liked. It’s moisture wicking (no sweaty bums) and no risk of seeing your undies through this fabric, even at full stretch! They are a firm hold, tight and stretch up to 500% so you may need to size down if you want a snug fit. These are really flattering, really comfortable in a great range of styles, colours and sizes.

They’ve also given us a special discount code for 10% off. Use “KIA10″ when you shop online. Hooray for Run Faster!

LSKD

Super sporty KiA Mum Sue tried the 7/8 length Rep Tight in Black. Sue is 178cm and about 75kg and was surprised and pleased to find the 10 was stretchy enough to fit, but was still importantly “squat proof”!

The 7/8 length is great on most heights but if you’re extra long in the leg (lucky you) our other tall KiA Mum Helen (180cms) tried the full length and they were perfect.

These are great cooler weather tights for those Adelaide mornings but look so good on that you’ll also be happy to wear them all day! Super versatile which we love.
The biggest winner is they’re 2 pocketed which is sensational- cant ever get enough pockets, right? Plus, as a bonus for us with the Mum tum (Mum of 3 here…. including twins!!) they hold all the wobbly bits in!

DharmaBums

Fleur (size M 175cms) and Roxy (size L 165cms) tried and we both found the fit was great and super comfortable. We used them for running, gym & plates- plus school pick up! The high waist band is great, especially after kids, it goes up and stays up.

The material is lightweight and snug and we love the range of colours and styles available – if you like a print this is the brand for you!
Best of all, they wash, dry and wear really well. Both big fans of these.

Bella Bodies

These tights are a big win for the mums! They are a great easy wear all day tight. They can be used to exercise in but they are also great for casual wear. The really high waist keeps everything tucked in nicely and the material means they move with you while your running around ticking off your never ending mum task list.

Shana wears a size M and is 171cm tall, we have found they are true to size when you follow the online size guide which goes from a size 8-10 up to 20-22. They’re made with 62% recycled yarn making them super soft and comfortable and also eco-friendly. Because the material is lightweight they wash up great, and also don’t go bally like some other tights are known to do.

These are a great price too at only $39.95

  • Do you like fun, food and gin.....and fun?.....and gin? Yep, us too! Make 2020 the year that you lock in some time out to pursue something for your self. Imagine that - a day just for you. Pencil it on the calendar, grab a bestie, sort the kids and take off for a day (or night) of fun. It's good for us, it recharges the old 'Mum batteries' like nobody's business and in our recent quest to uncover Adelaide's best 'Mum's Time Out' experiences we found Barossa Gin School and guys, it is RIGHT up there with one of the best things I have ever done! (.....and I've done stuff ha ha.) Happy 'Mum's Time Out' Birthday to me! I was recently gifted the best present I have ever been given, when two of my girlfriends thoughtfully purchased a voucher for me to 'Be a Distiller for a Day' with the Barossa Gin School. What a cracking gift if you have some one special (who loves gin and food - um don't most of us?) I twisted a girlfriends arm to come with me, because Mum's Time is better with friends (hopefully the sort that make you laugh and laugh…

  • OK yes we are all original Adelaide Hills girls so we MAY be just a little bit bias BUT if you haven’t been up the hill for a while we definitely think you should put it on the “to do” list.

  • There’s no doubt about it, Adelaide LOVES a Christmas pageant. Maybe it’s because we’re home to one of the best and largest Christmas pageants in the world? Or maybe it’s just because we REALLY know how to do Christmas?
