Find it at: Alfred Street, Walkerville

Nestled in next to the Walkerville sports oval this is a lovely local playground that you would not even know existed.

It does have a few downs but it would be a shame if we didn’t share it with you as we do think it is a good one for a short visit.  Suited mainly for toddlers and kindy aged kids with a few other pieces to keep the older ones happy.

The first thing that draws you to this playground is the brightly coloured equipment along with the huge orange tubular slide that ends with a smiley face. Lets hope it is all smiles at the end.

To get to the top of the slide you must first work your way up the rope tower that leads you to the platform to utilise the slide. Amazes me how quick the kids always manage to climb these rope towers . They certainly are on trend.

As you then look around the rest of the playground you will see a merry go round , swing sets including nest and baby swing , a see saw and a mound slippery dip.

Our favourite piece here would have to be the gorgeous flower play house for the little ones. Featuring climbing bars ,a tube flower to climb into and through, another slippery dip and more. This is a lovely play haven for imaginative and interactive play.

The play area also includes a shaded sand pit , small grassed area to run around on and don’t forget you have the oval right next door if the older kids want to have a little space and kick the ball.

This play area is fully fenced however besides the sandpit is NOT shaded. Such a shame. It has no BBQs but does have an old undercover area that you could set up you own picnic table.

NO toilets either I’m afraid. You might be able to utilise the oval toilets. A few down falls but we still like this play space.

There are lots of coffee shops along Walkerville Tce (we have tried Nest a few times)  plus the Walkerville shopping centre has a supermarket, bakery and the all important toilets.

  • Find it at: Rodgers Terrace, Maitland On the corner of Rogers Terrace and Robert St in Maitland there is a great combination playground. It boasts both the typical metal/plastic style playground with a large wooden climbing section. There is a spinning ride (although beware after rain as it fills with water), swings, a big slide, a digger and climbing equipment. It is surrounded by fence for most of the playground with just a small gap for entering (not secure). It has a car park, shaded seating, a free bbq, a double cricket pitch and it's just a short walk to nearby toilets.Fun for the whole family!

  • Find it at: Stansbury Rd, Yorketown Yorketown Playground is absolutely massive and there is something for everyone. When you arrive you'll notice there's plenty of parking, there's an information booth for the area and some unique art around the place. Once you've parked you'll see a large playground area, a toilet block, a bbq with a shaded seating area and a short walk away, a big lake. We decided to check out the lake first and on our walk down there, discovered nature play spaces for climbing and exploring as well as many little creatures for children to take delight in. The lake is beautiful and there are walking paths you can take. Once back at the playground you will discover a Loch Ness Monster, flower photo booth, challenging play equipment for all ages and a stunning artwork of 2 rosellas. We stayed and played for well over an hour as it's perfect for kids and big kids (if you get my drift ;-))

  • Find it at: Pederick Road, Lewiston It's a beautiful playground in such a quiet area. There is little traffic passing by and its enclosed. The playground is in good repair, clean and lots of fun for a range of ages. There is a bbq area with plenty of undercover seating, rubbish bins and a public toilet. The carpark is off the road and has plenty of space and there's even a wetlands walking track. Whilst there we noticed that previous families had taken chalk and done drawing on the brick pathways so that's another idea for keeping the children entertained. There is also a grassy area for ball play. It's definitely somewhere I'll be taking my family for a picnic in the future.
