A $2 million leading-edge playground opened in 2024, in the heart of Strathalbyn development, Aurora.
The new playground, Aurora Park, is a great addition for families in the $180 million land development that will house more than 300 families when complete. Aurora Park covers more than 5400sqm with an adventure playground and spaces for ball sports, a picnic lawn and native garden with loop track for younger children.
The playground is spacious and obviously highlighted by the huge tower and tube slide, which as our testing found out is a rather challenging climb (but our 4yo managed it comfortably enough) for the bigger kids.
We didn’t love the lack of toilets or toddler swing option, but the lush grass and spacious basketball court has come up a treat. We packed our balance bikes too and there is a small path which the little ones can scoot around on, however we wouldn’t go as far as to say it has a bike track. Featuring a couple of shelters and a BBQ, it will no doubt be a hit for locals as a party park option. Hopefully some public toilets can be installed to round this one off nicely.
There are big plans for this area and it will grow quite big it seems, which a Catholic school slotted to be built nearby too.
For those travelling from the northern hills area, we highly recommend stopping at the Wistow Bakery which even has a drive through!
High budget, high quality skatepark with bowl. Accessible for all ages. No tables but space on the grass for picnics.Callum age 10 says he likes this park “because there was a lot of space and a bowl. It can be suitable for all ages. I liked the good layout of obstacles. It wasn’t too steep so I learnt how to drop in and pop out of the bowl”. No toilets. Find it at 114 Langhorne Creek Rd, Strathalbyn [wpgmza id="138" cat="1" marker="874" zoom="16"]
Smaller budget community skate park, some interesting features enjoyed by my younger boys on BMX and scooter but the transitions on the northern wallride feature weren’t great. Roll in, quarter pipe, little button mushroom and raised box were interesting. Situated around a well manicured football oval. Playground adjacent with climbing equipment, a small flying fox, swings, picnic table & clean toilets. Fairly quiet. Find it at 38 Bagster Rd, Salisbury North [wpgmza id="138" cat="1" marker="875" zoom="16"]
Find it at: Gullly Road, Seacliff Park The Gully Road North Reserve Playground at Seacliff Park is so good! It's a terrific location, with a beautiful winding creek bed of Gilbertson Gully to follow on one side, and the O'Halloran Hill Recreation Park on the other! There is still some work to be done on the grass next to the playground, but the basketball ring and playground are able to be used. What are it's features? Large climbing frame Toilets Bbq area Basket swing Seating Shade from trees, but not directly over climbing frame area Basketball court area Water play area Sand pit area- with a digger you guys!! Nature gully walk (head north down Gilbertson Gully and across the road, then the path takes you along the creek bed. It's so fun!) You can ride south up the hill towards O'Halloran Hill Recreation Park where there are loads of bike tracks or walking trails Off-street parking available What doesn't it have? The playground is not fenced and it's not that close to coffee, but the playground has quite a bit of space around it and the roads either side are not terrible busy
