Find it at: corner of Cheltenham Parade and Torrens Road, Cheltenham

The brand new Cheltenham Park playground is now open on the corner of Cheltenham Parade and Torrens Road, Cheltenham. The playground and reserve sits in the corner of the new community of ‘St Clair’ and includes an extensive wetlands area with lots of new plantings, resident ducks are already at home and there are a number of wooden boardwalks so you can get up close to the wetlands. In addition, the cool new playground is sure to be a hit with locals and includes a number of new equipment we haven’t seen elsewhere. HOWEVER, please note that this playgroud is NOT fenced and is quite close to both a main road (Torrens Road) and an unfenced wetlands area – please take extra care, especially if going with more than one child! There are also not yet any toilet facilities onsite.

We do love that Cheltenham Park playground has a section for the younger kids (1-4 year olds) and another section right next to it for the older kids (5-12 years). The toddlers area has a number of cool play items including a small spinner, spring rockers, seesaw, climbing teepee that kids can also sit inside and a climbing ‘castle’ with age appropriate slide. The toddlers area has mostly barkchips and some softfall rubber surfaces underfoot.

The older kids area has an awesome rope climbing net and a large, cool climbing frame. There are also a number of swings for different aged kids including a mini, enclosed one for littlies. Throw in some cute wooden drums, undercover seats, free electric BBQ, gorgeous wooden balance beams and sculptured totem poles and we are really beginning to like the whole area. With plenty of green space to run around and have a picnic in there are also a number of large trees nearby to find some shade, however the actual play equipment is not shaded at this stage. If you make your way to the very corner of the reserve where Cheltenham Parade meets Torrens Road you’ll also find the half court basketball and fully enclosed childrens play area with awesome tunnels (more pics coming soon of these!)

The main detractors from the Cheltenham Park Playground in the corner of St Clair Reserve is that the main playground area is not fully fenced and close to the road and water. Other factors are no apparent easy parking, plus no toilets and no shade make it less attractive than it would otherwise be. We have contacted the council to ask whether these items are on the ‘to do’ list and will update this review when we get more info. We do know that there is a whole new public greenspace and changerooms etc planned on the other side of the St Clair housing community where there are already some facilities (shown here), but that’s not a short walk with kids!

To whom it concerns,
I’m wondering if the Cheltenham park has toilets?
Hi Lauren. When we visited no, there were no toilets.
