Christmas at the Mortlock

Giant Christmas tree to light up this festive season in the Mortlock Chamber of the SA Library.

Adelaide’s largest indoor Christmas tree will light up for the first time this festive season on Pageant Day at the State Library of South Australia. Located in the iconic Mortlock Chamber, the 7-metre-tall Christmas tree will be launched at 9am on Saturday November 4 to coincide with the 2023 Christmas Pageant until Saturday 7th January 2024

Monday: 9am to 5pm
Tuesday: 9am to 7pm
Wednesday to Friday: 9am to 5pm
Saturday and Sunday: 12 to 5pm

Please note that we are closed on public holidays.

Visit the Mortlock Chamber and see our giant Christmas tree. We have lots of fun activities for you to do including:

• Christmas reading nook – visitors can take time out to read a book in a festive-themed reading nook.
• School choir performances – School choirs will fill the Mortlock with Christmas joy with a series of performances from Monday 4 December until Friday 8 December.
• Christmas display – a collection of Christmas pop-up books from our Children’s Literacy Research Collection and images from Christmas Pageants from the past.
• Choir performances – various choirs will be presenting in December.
• Storytelling – various storytellers will share their favourite Christmas stories.
