The Fleurieu Arthouse is a real gem with so much on offer including an inspiring gallery/retail space that will get the budding artist inspired to create and you to make a few purchases. Then there are the workshop areas which enable you to see artists creating and an open space where school holiday programs are held.
This place has so many little treasures: the kids art classes, trees to climb, the children’s play area and old school phone box in the retail space to keep the kids happily playing while you shop, painted butterfly wings for a selfie opp, gorgeous spaces to have picnics and even parties and of course amazing art and unique purchasing opportunities.

For locals there are regular art classes running and if you’re coming from further afield and making a day trip of it there is a holiday program available to give your kids a taste of different forms of art and you a few hours to enjoy the grounds or area.

With the Arthouse being on the grounds of Hardy’s Winery in the historic hub of McLaren Vale there are many combinations of activities and experiences that are on offer. You could take the children to the holiday workshop with a friend, enjoy a wine or coffee from the cellar door and take a picnic. You can do the self guided winery tour with older kids and learn about the history of the winery and enjoy the winery viewing deck. Take lunch and enjoy the grassed area while the kids climb the tree, simply pop in and browse the winery and Arthouse and enjoy a coffee and pick up a Fleurieu treasure . So many combinations to choose from and all are tempting.

When the weather is nice there is a wheelbarrow full of cricket gear on the lawns by the cellar door which will keep the kids ( big and small) happy. Hardys Cellar door has picnic rugs available for use and there are picnic tables and BBQs available free of charge (key deposit of $20 required) .

This place is inspiring. The combination of history alongside such talented artists’ wares, and opportunities for kids to create is impressive and being done with kids in mind.  You’re made to feel so very welcome.

This place is sure to become more and more popular with both children and adults alike as the importance of artistic expression and experiences is understood along with the desire and benefits understood to buy local artisan products. Make sure you book for one of the holiday workshops and make a day of it, consider including a visit to the Fruchoc shop which is opposite, you might even get a taste test.
