Kids in Adelaide – Our Favourite Playgrounds in Adelaide

It’s really hard to choosing our favourite playgrounds because we all like something different. Some kids like risky equipment, fast slides and lots of other kids, where as other kids like small parks where they can not feel overwhelmed.  That’s why we try and review all sorts of playgrounds, not just the biggest and the “best” ones.

  • When you have older kids, it can sometimes be harder to find playgrounds that give them enough of a challenge to stay enthusiastic enough to not be annoying.....thankfully Taperoo Playground is a winner! A beautiful spot, with fabulous manicured grass to make any dad jealous and is perfect for picnics. There is a small tramp built into the ground which is always fun for a bounce or two. What we loved the most was the huge climbing equipment which had a range or ropes and little challenges to weave around as you climb. We haven't seen anything like this in our travels for a long time and love some playground design creativity to challenge the older kids. There is also extra equipment with swings and slides more suited to the younger kids, nature play, plus a half court basketball court and outdoor fitness equipment too! They have also included a BBQ, shelter and toilets to make this a very well designed facility for the family.

  • Where: Railway Terrace, Karoonda Part of the Mallee Playground Trail (A ripping local initiative linking 3 playgrounds at Karoonda, Wynarka and Wanbi), the space themed Karoonda Playground is an absolutely awesome attraction for the region, making it a must stop for Adelaide families out on a road trip. The star attraction is of course the 3-storey high tower, complete with double tube slide and observation deck area. The playground is fully fenced, with a bark surface (so wear shoes!) and also boasts a flying fox, hammock and water play area. We popped in on a school holiday road trip and the kids loved this one (even though the large tube slide does look a bit crazy!) Throw in some toilets, plus a stones throw from the bakery and pub across the road and this will be a regional playground highlight for years to come. Oh and don't forget to check out the Karoonda Silo Art during your trip! Read more about the silo art around our fab state here.

  • Where: Newman Road, Charleston Adelaide Hills Council have put the finishing touches on this fabulous new playspace at gorgeous Charleston. Coming in at about $180 grand, this has plenty to offer all of your kids as they stop off to stretch the legs during your Sunday road trip. We love the 3 on 3 basketball court (plus adjacent tennis courts if that takes your fancy) as well as the little scooter track that travels around the playground. Lots of climbing equipment here too for the slightly older kids, with a tower and slide (plus cargo climbing net). Throw in swings and a giant rope plus a whole lot more, and you have a really good regional stop over attraction. This is a beauty to turn into part of a day trip with a visit to Melba's Chocolate Factory (check out all the info on them here) or how about find a family friendly place for lunch (we have lots of great hills spots here)

    Hey Roxy
I’ve been a big fan (+ my 2.75 yr old) of the Bunnings indoor playgrounds over the last few weeks (while it’s been peeing down). You should give them a try – they come with a mediocre but cheap cafe – you just hang out on the outdoor furniture while your kid goes mental :0)

You’ve missed one – Plympton Oval playground, South Plympton cnr of Ferry Ave and Milton Ave. Small, but has swing set, slide and nature play elements. Perfect for toddlers! I love the map feature though!
