If you have every spent time driving into the city from down south, you probably would’ve driven past Sugar & Spice Cakes on Goodwood Road. They are on the left just after the Goodwood underpass & it makes your commute that little bit nicer if you get stuck in traffic right next to their shop. In their windows are DIVINE cakes of all colour, shapes, sizes & design. Whether you need a cake for a wedding, birthday, engagement, retirement, anniversary or ANY special occasion, Amanda & the team at Sugar & Spice are they way to go! The have made the cake for my son’s birthday party for the last two years & it is always a fantastic experience from start to finish.

You only need to have a look at the Sugar & Spice website, social media, shopfront or step inside the shop to realise that Sugar & Spice make amazing cakes. No matter what theme, colour scheme or the size of the guest list, Sugar & Spice will create something amazing for you.

My son’s 3rd birthday was a Farm Theme & upon getting in touch, Amanda immediately had ideas for a fun, farm cake to suit the party & the birthday boy. She invited us in for a cake tasting to choose a flavour & discuss the cake design in more detail.

Well, the birthday boy thought he was IT AND A BIT coming into the store for a tasting! He deliberated carefully over all of the flavours we could choose from before settling on red velvet. Our choices included White Fudge & Raspberry, Triple Layer Chocolate, Lemon Delicious, Raspberry Bullet, Triple Choc with Salted Caramel, American Red Velvet along with some limited edition flavours such as Lemon & Elderflower plus Sticky Date. They were ALL incredible, so I highly recommend taking advantage of a free tasting session with Sugar & Spice while designing your cake.

Next came the big day & it was time to collect our cake – Amanda always makes such a fuss of the birthday boy as she revealed his cake to him & the look of delight on his face when he saw it for the first time was the best birthday treat of all. Look at his face….and LOOK AT THAT CAKE! The cake was more than we could ever have possible imagined. The Sugar & Spice team put so much work into it & delivered a truly stunning result.

His fourth birthday was a Zebra and Turtle themed cake (his favourite things in the world!) with Vanilla Funfetti plus Marble inside and once again, Sugar & Spice delivered a truly stunning (and DELISH) cake!

After the nerve-wracking task of transporting the cake to the party, we finally had it all set up & it was party time! The cake along with the stunning farm animal cupcakes attracted many “oohs & ahhs” from the guests as they entered the party. Everyone exclaimed how incredible the cake looked & marveled at the talent & workmanship that went into it.

Time to sing Happy Birthday & then EAT CAKE! As hard as it was to cut up this stunning masterpiece, we are glad we did because both the red velvet cake & vanilla cupcakes were DELICIOUS. The cupcakes disappeared in record time & nearly everyone went back for a second slice of cake – and there was still plenty leftover. Sugar & Spice really are generous in their sizing, you definitely won’t need to worry about your guests going hungry!

Thank you to Amanda & the team at Sugar & Spice for going above & beyond to make a truly incredible cake & for making our son’s birthdays extra special!

(and how lucky are the families of those kids! well played Mums and Dads)We're pretty lucky here in Adelaide that there are a number of cooking schools around the place offering both one off school holiday classes as well as regularly weekly sessions your kids can sign up for. They can learn to bake a cake, make the perfect scrambled egg and even try their hand at Japanese pancakes! They'll not only learn how to follow a recipe and measure ingredients, they'll also learn about food, nutrition and experimenting with food. It all sounds yummy to us!
