No trip to Victor Harbor is complete without a delicious cup of coffee from The Causeway Cafe.

Located at Number 1, The Esplanade, this café is the epitome of family-friendly dining. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the iconic Horse Drawn Tram and Warland Reserve, with Granite Island Causeway within easy reach, it’s the ideal starting point for a day filled with exploration and excitement.

As you walk in, you are greeted with friendly smiles and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Whether you’re here for a leisurely brunch or a quick bite to eat, Causeway Cafe promises a memorable experience for those seeking quality time and great food.

Once indoors, the inviting ambiance beckons families to unwind and enjoy. On sunny days, bask in the sunshine at one of the picnic benches on the outdoor terrace, where children can frolic on the grass. Or, come winter cosy up indoors where the crackling combustion heater adds an extra layer of warmth. A charming Ikea play kitchen tucked in the corner adds to the family-friendly atmosphere. And with ample space for prams and readily available high chairs, parents can relax knowing their little ones are well accommodated. Nearby public toilets provide added convenience for families with children.

Serving up lip-smacking dishes, the breakfast and lunch menu caters to all tastes and preferences.

For the little ones, The Causeway Cafe’s kids’ menu is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters. With options like the Bacon Egg Burger and the Pick Bowl, kids can enjoy their own delicious meal alongside the grown-ups. Don’t forget to treat them to a milkshake or a hot chocolate for good measure.

The Causeway Cafe is also licensed, so you can indulge in a glass of something a little stronger if the mood strikes. Before you bid adieu, be sure to check out the fridge for a slice of cake and if one takes your fancy (it will) order it takeaway with another cup of coffee – because, why not? Also look out for their pop-up events. When we were there they were advertising a Paint & Sip which sounded FUN!

Let’s not forget about all the other fantastic amenities that make this the ultimate family destination. With a huge carpark conveniently located next door, parking is a breeze, making it easy for families to enjoy a delicious meal without any hassle. For those looking to add a bit of fun to their visit, The Causeway Cafe is right next to Dunes Mini Golf and a fabulous Games Arcade, offering entertainment for kids of all ages. You can also book local tours and/or hire a bike here. And if you happen to visit during school holidays, you’re in for an extra treat. At the beginning of the Causeway, Victor Harbor hosts a fun fair with show rides, sideshow games, and even camel and pony rides along the beach.

So whether you’re in need of a mid-morning pick-me-up in a beachside setting, a sanctuary for your frazzled parental brain, or just a place to kick back and relax, you can’t go wrong with The Causeway Cafe. Trust me, you won’t regret it – just don’t blame me if you find yourself coming back for seconds (or thirds, or fourths…).

  • Victor Harbor is an iconic seaside town less than an hour out of Adelaide. The weather is always a little cooler in Victor, which makes it the IDEAL place to visit with the kids during the searing heat of Adelaide summers. The beaches are great, with Middleton, Carrikalinga, Goolwa and Port Elliot a short drive away and great for body boarding, surfing and swimming. There's delicious bakeries and family friendly cafes and restaurants to enjoy a meal and this area also has some of our favourite playgrounds. If you're planning a trip to Victor be sure to put a few of these on your 'to do' list. Due to the algal bloom, we recommend checking the authorised SA Government Algal Bloom update page here, before attending any beaches or entering the water.

  • Do you like beer?Do you like pizza?Do you like dogs?Do you like great views?Do you like amazing service? If you answered YES to any of the above, then it is time to take a drive down the Fleurieu Peninsula to Smiling Samoyed Brewery at Myponga. It is situated right on the Myponga Reservoir and it is one of our favourite spots to hang out with the family while enjoying a great meal. Smiling Samoyed Brewery is open 7 days a week and have their pizza oven firing everyday. So there's no need to wait until a weekend, head down there anytime for a great meal. You'll be greeted by the stars of the show - Kent and Hoppy, their two GORGEOUS white samoyed dogs who lap up the attention of all the guests. There is an outdoor playground, perfect to keep the kids entertained while they wait for their food. It's a decent sized playground too, definitely not an afterthought. Our kids loved playing "houses" on the playground and our three year old learnt how to slide down the fire pole - so much fun! If it is too wet or too hot to be outside on the playground, don't…

  • We love a family friendly winery and they don't come much better than Vine Shed, in McLaren Vale on the wonderful Fleurieu Peninsula. If you haven't been here yet, clear the diary and book in for lunch, wine tasting or some live music with the whole family at this stunner of a cellar door! The Vine Shed is so much more than a cellar door however - it is a full blown family friendly restaurant, wedding venue and live music venue with something for everyone. The venue itself is a mix of modern and rustic - it's a huge, stunning building set on Conte Estate, with a vast dining space inside, along with a Mezzanine. Outside you'll find a bridge over a small rocky waterfall, leading out to a large lawn area for kids to run around, complete with a cubby, swings and outdoor games - heaven! Oh and did we mention there are also a few ponds with fish, ducks and elusive frogs (we couldn't see them, but we could certainly hear them!). Just bear in mind that the ponds aren't fenced, so keep a close eye on little ones. Let's get onto the menu - one of the…
