Find it at: Newman Road, Charleston

Adelaide Hills Council have put the finishing touches on this fabulous new playspace at gorgeous Charleston. Coming in at about $180 grand, this has plenty to offer all of your kids as they stop off to stretch the legs during your Sunday road trip.

We love the 3 on 3 basketball court (plus adjacent tennis courts if that takes your fancy) as well as the little scooter track that travels around the playground. Lots of climbing equipment here too for the slightly older kids, with a tower and slide (plus cargo climbing net). Throw in swings and a giant rope plus a whole lot more, and you have a really good regional stop over attraction.

This is a beauty to turn into part of a day trip with a visit to Melba’s Chocolate Factory (check out all the info on them here) or how about find a family friendly place for lunch (we have lots of great hills spots here)

  • Find it at: Main St, Woodside If you're looking for a nice playground for school aged kids in the Adelaide Hills, with full facilities then this might be it! Woodside Playground is located right on the Main Street next to the Woodside Oval and sports complex. It has all the usual playground equipment - slides, a small 'flying fox', climbing frames and swings all within a fully fenced play area. In addition, it's right next to the skate ramp, toilet block and large enclosed area with BBQ facilities and covered seating, with plenty of car parking. Best for 5-12 year olds. Our favourite local cafe is The Olive Branch Cafe  in Balhannah and for another destination in the area check out Melbas Chocolate Factory just on the other side of Woodside.

  • Find it at: Glover St, Kersbrook Located behind the football oval, this fantastic facility opened in April 2021 and is yet another beautiful playground that has opened in the Adelaide Hills in 2021 (we really are building a great Hills Playground trail!). There are no toilets here that we could see, unless they were hidden behind the club rooms. The spacious playspace includes a huge flying fox, a cool sand play area, lots of nature play equipment (lots of logs), in-ground trampolines, swings and much more to explore. This one is suited for all ages and why not take advantage of the picnic seating and bench seating to have a nice lunch whilst on your hills road trip?

  • Find it at: Railway Terrace, Karoonda Part of the Mallee Playground Trail (A ripping local initiative linking 3 playgrounds at Karoonda, Wynarka and Wanbi), the space themed Karoonda Playground is an absolutely awesome attraction for the region, making it a must stop for Adelaide families out on a road trip. The star attraction is of course the 3-storey high tower, complete with double tube slide and observation deck area. The playground is fully fenced, with a bark surface (so wear shoes!) and also boasts a flying fox, hammock and water play area. We popped in on a school holiday road trip and the kids loved this one (even though the large tube slide does look a bit crazy!) Throw in some toilets, plus a stones throw from the bakery and pub across the road and this will be a regional playground highlight for years to come. Oh and don't forget to check out the Karoonda Silo Art during your trip! Read more about the silo art around our fab state here.
