Discovery Parks Hahndorf is one of those stays that hits the sweet spot for families, relaxed, easy, spacious and perfectly positioned for adventures. Sitting right at the entry to Hahndorf and spread across an incredible 13 hectares of rolling hills and scenic bushland, this park feels wide-open, peaceful and connected to nature. It’s the total opposite of a cramped caravan park, there’s room to roam, room to breathe, and views in every direction that remind you why the Adelaide Hills are such a must visit destination.

From the moment we arrived, the kids were off, racing between the pump track, jumping pillow, games room, playground, giant chess set, and what quickly became their new obsession, the excellent mini golf course. Add in a heated swimming pool with sweeping Hills views, and the fun truly doesn’t stop. During school holidays the vibe kicks up another gear, with Discovery Parks known for running kid-friendly seasonal activities like craft sessions, treasure hunts and movie nights across their network. It’s always worth checking what’s planned when you book so you don’t miss out.

Mealtimes were a breeze thanks to the huge, beautifully maintained camp kitchen. Cooking together, BBQ dinners overlooking million-dollar views, and gathering around the seasonal communal fire pit became some of our favourite moments. Caravan parks really are magic for kids, ours made friends within minutes, forming little bike gangs and jumping-pillow crews, which meant the grown-ups enjoyed each others company and some actual relaxation!

We also saw two families of little fuzzy baby ducklings, which absolutely made our day and kept the kids on the lookout for more.

Whether you prefer a lakeside cabin, a family villa or a powered campsite, there’s something here for every budget and every style of traveller. The facilities are immaculate, the setting is stunning, and with Hahndorf’s main street just moments away, plus wineries, hiking trails, wildlife parks and farm gates all nearby, it’s the ideal base for exploring the Hills. There’s even onsite conference and event facilities, making it perfect for family gatherings, work trips or group stays.

For us, the highlights were simple: the openness, the views, the ease, the laughter around the fire, and the kids enjoying so many facilities geared up just for them. Discovery Parks Hahndorf is the kind of place families return to year after year and we can absolutely see why. Plus we didn’t even mention, no air travel, transit times, passports or lost luggage in sight! Just an easy half hour drive in the car. That’s a stress free win!

  • In the warmer months, strawberry picking at Beerenberg in the Adelaide Hill's (Hahndorf to be exact) is a bit of a South Australian right of passage. We take our interstate and overseas visitors, we take our kids, and my god is it good! However, we feel a bit cheated. We had no idea until very recently that the 'Farm Café' and inhouse ice creamery 'The Dairy' was so divine, or such an epic option for eating out with the kids. It's not just good, it's genuinely *really* good. Beerenberg has a beautiful story, a rich family history that spans six generations and has woven much of the fabric of this great regions development. To this day, they are still 100% family owned, and all of their products are made onsite. Back to the food! The Farm Café doesn't take bookings, just roll on up from 9am to 4pm every day with the exception of Christmas. Head chef, David, was so passionate to take us (kids included) through his menu of freshly made breakfasts, lunches, brunches, cakes and more. There were a few stand outs for us all, and The Dairy obviously won the kids hearts, along with the most decadent…
