Himeji Japanese Gardens
The gorgeous Japanese Himeji Gardens are located on the Eastern side of Glen Osmond Road and South Terrace intersection. This little oasis in the Southern Parklands is a wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of ‘normal life’. The lush greenery also means it’s the perfect place for some photos!
Throughout the gardens there are lovely Japanese plantings and a well maintain Japanese rock Zen garden, or Karensansui.
Please respect the tranquillity of the Japanese Himeji Gardens. While we think all kids should be able to experience this wonderful place please understand that other garden visitors are probably here for the peace and calming qualities too.
Mount Lofty Botanic Garden

Picture this: you walk in with your squad of mini-humans, and instead of getting the side-eye from fellow diners, you're greeted with sympathetic nods, quick, quality caffeine offerings and knowing smiles. Talk about seeking refuge in the comforting embrace of good fresh food and understanding company, with a side serve of epic kids offerings from breakfast to treats/snacks and of course lunch menu options. Let's talk about the menu – it's like they've cracked the code to kid-friendly cuisine. They've got all the classics, from bacon and eggs to pancakes and toasties, guaranteed to make even the fussiest little critics nod in approval. Rices Creek is tucked away in the picturesque town of Auburn, surrounded by a beautiful native garden, vineyards, and an olive grove. One of the highlights is the full 18-hole mini golf course, which was a fantastic way to spend an hour or so with the family when visiting the Clare Valley region. The kids had an absolute blast, and even Dad mentioned that the course was surprisingly great - challenging enough to keep everyone engaged. The cafe overlooks the mini golf course and although we didn’t have time to grab a coffee or an ice cream (much to the kids' disgust), but the cafe looked really cute and would’ve been the perfect spot to linger a bit longer. There's also a fully enclosed courtyard, making it ideal for families, with a children’s playground just nearby. There’s also a large sheltered seating area next to the playground, with extra games to keep the kids entertained while you relax. Our round of mini golf set us back $30 for a family of two adults and two children, which we thought was pretty decently priced.
