UPDATE: The in-ground trampolines have recently been removed citing ‘noise issues’. City of Unley are aiming to relocate them elsewhere in the playground or in another park nearby soon. We will keep you posted. Oct 2017.
The former site of a plant nursery, this corner block has long been waiting for something to reinvigorate the area and this great little park is just perfect for local families, especially those with kids aged 2-7 years. Please note that the reserve is only 3/4 fenced and has no public toilets onsite.
Some of the equipment we love includes:
3 swing options including fully enclosed baby swing,
3 in ground mini trampolines
a small spinner that kids can sit or stand on,
large sandpit,
multiple person slide,
a number of wooden balancing/jumping poles.
There are two large shade sails over most of the main play area which will be great in the summer moths, plus a sheltered sitting area, multiple benches and water fountain including a cool dog bubbler!
We love the way they have spaced some cool ‘thinking spots’ around the Reserve. These spots encourage quiet listening, active engagement and appreciation for the area with phrases like ‘warble like a magpie’ and ‘hug a tree like a koala’. Once the planted large trees grow taller on coming years it will be an even nicer space to sit and play.
Our kids also love that the concrete path is intertwined around the play area so they can ride their scooters and bikes along the paths while there, along with a number of bike racks near the bins at both entrances. The playing surface under most of the equipment is softball rubber. Elsewhere there are bark chips, grass, sand and wood mulch.
With no toilets or BBQ, and not being completely fenced, it’s not ideal for parties, or young folks who are ‘runners’ except under close adult supervision. But, if you’re a local, this cute new Katherine Street Reserve is a welcome addition to the area. I believe there are still plans for more planting of a ‘forest’ in one corner – more info to come when available 🙂
Find it at: Brooklyn Drive, Hallett Cove The Brooklyn Drive Reserve playground is open and after rigorous testing by a KiA crew, it has been given the tick of approval. Not a huge space, but a great spot for locals, this timber themed playground has enough to keep most ages entertained while you take 5 during your probably hectic schedule! There is a swing (plus a toddler swing), as well as monkey bars (to be fair they are fairly low hanging so taller squids may drag their feet a tad) and a climbing tower with slide. Not bad! Chuck in some unique features like 4-square handball court and capture the flag instructions and a mud kitchen! For the parents, there are no toilets but there is a shaded seating area. No shade over the equipment either so it may get pretty hot as there aren't many trees either. Stuck for a bite to eat after your play? We highly recommend the nearby Cafe Rimini at Hallett Cove. Check out all the info here.
Find it at: George Street, Marion The City of Marion have opened up yet another fabulous playground (they are really setting the standard aren't they), this time a spacious playground at George Street. With an in-ground trampoline, swing, sandpit, water pump and 2 historical-themed cubby houses, including a village store and a workers cottage, this one is really cool. There’s also a miniature fire pole, slide and logs to jump on and an upgraded 3-on-3 basketball and netball court. There's plenty of space (the oval and footy goals are just fantastic) for your doggo to run around, as well as a sheltered BBQ area. Oh and did we mention there are toilets? Because there are! We really enjoyed this one and there was plenty for our older boys to climb and swing around on, whilst also offering enough to keep the young ones entertained.
Find it at: Montrose St, Ferryden Park Located on Montrose St at Ferryden Park, this little spot has just had $155, 000 spent on an upgrade which is now open! There is new play equipment including a rubber softfall mat, slide, bouncy buggy, trampolines and double swings. They have also installed two new park seats and a new drinking fountain!
I'm an Adelaide mum of 2 young, energetic boys. We love the outdoors, diggers, bike riding and travel!

Hi, just letting you know that the ‘Friends of the Katherine St Reserve’ have started a petition to the City of Unley to reinstate the trampolines. The petition can be accessed via https://chn.ge/2AKLkLP
