Find it at: Carrick Hill Drive, Mitcham

If you have a future ninja warrior in the house, check out the Ninja Course Playground at McElligott’s Reserve in Springfield.
Mitcham Council have installed a boulder climb, rope net wall, commando bar climb and an electronic stopwatch wall to time yourself against the kids! This will no doubt coincide with an increase in soft tissue injuries presenting at the local physios, but thats what being a parent is all about isn’t it!

It also includes a shade structure, new paved path and exercise equipment. There is plenty of grassed area for a picnic or a kick and a catch, so pack the usual playground supplies. You will find some shelter and seating plus a BBQ, making this a pretty sweet little party park, but the lack of toilets is a let down. Adults can pretend they will use the exercise the equipment, which we all know will never happen.

A stone’s throw from Carrick Hill, this is a pretty spectacular part of Adelaide with some sensational views around if you explore the nearby Quarry hiking trails.

  • Of all of the SA reservoirs, Barossa Reservoir with its famous 'Whispering Wall' is surely a favourite for kids. It doesn't involve a big walk or hike and it is THE most magical experience to have one person whisper at the end of the reservoir wall and another hear it over 140 meters away on the other end. Better than milo tins on a string, and even better than the sound pipes in the Angaston Adventure Station (which are pretty hard to beat to be honest - that place is mad good). The Whispering Wall can be found near Williamstown in the Barossa Valley, under one hours drive from the Adelaide CBD. Honestly it is worth the trip just for this stop alone. Constructed in the very early 1900's, it is actually the retaining wall of the Barossa Resevior that will carry your voice, and yep even the quietest of whispers, all the way to the other side. If your kids are like our kids, they will delight in the opportunity to heckle each other, sneak in a swear word or two, sing, laught, coo-ee and yell from end to end. Thankfully we had the entire wall to our selves…

  • Find it at: Corner Old Belair Road and Norman Walk, Mitcham This ripper was upgraded in December 2018 and we absolutely love it! The new playground updates are a credit to Nature Play Design and the City of Mitcham with a great mix of the nature play elements alongside more traditional equipment. On the larger side of the park (the Northern side) there is the highlight of the new upgrade to Mitcham Reserve with a double story 'elf tower' made of wood with a weather vane, horse and cart, spiral slide, double slide (which has a ramp access), double swings, rocking horse, stepping logs and climbing logs. Across the little foot bridge on the southern side of the creek there are more swings, balancing ropes, awesome carved animals, aboriginal artworks and more! With the new upgrade, Mitcham Reserve is even more of a beautiful park with the great new play equipment and wonderfully kept grounds. There is plenty of space and shade for large groups to spread out and enjoy a picnic. There are also BBQ's available, plus a lovely creek to add to the ambience. Kids will enjoy the opportunity to run around and kick a ball or play…
