Following its partial closure for the South Road upgrade, Polonia Reserve has re-opened into a magnificent new playground, which features one of the most eye-catching designs of any playground in the state.
The Polonia Reserve upgrade includes an open kick about lawn, play space and storm water detention area. The huge 7-metre-tall, 12-metre-wide soccer ball playground sculpture, built by local business Iguana Creative, features three levels, two slides, a climbing structure, a lookout platform, tessellated climbing steps, fire poles, an interactive ticket booth, and exterior illumination.
The soccer ball play element is not just a fun addition to this new reserve but also pays homage to the area’s history. Before moving up the road to the newly constructed Regency Reserve, Polonia Reserve was home to Croydon Football Club since 1950, and before that was home to Polonia Soccer Club.
We can’t wait to make this a local hangout and it will be an absolute hit with the locals.
This is a newly renovated (July 2018) park for all ages. 4 swings (2 little kids and 2 older kids), balancing, climbing nets and climbing wall, monkey bars, firemans pole and flying fox. There's also exercise equipment for big kids and adults. Nature play elements including hard and loose surface paths and a water play area including a water gate, water pumps, channel, sand sieve and wooden bridge that will be great fun in summer! There's also lots of shade including 2 shade sails which we love as well as BBQs and undercover picnic area, basketball area and netball goal too. A great park for a birthday party! This is an off-leash park where dogs can exercise off-leash, except within 5 metres of a playground, at a wetland or when organised sport is being played. Note: There are no toilets at this park but it's just a short walk (10 mins or so) to Hendrie Street Reserve [wpgmza id="138" cat="1" marker="480" zoom="16"]
Find it at: Yarrabee Road, Greenhill Could this public tennis court have the best view in Australia? We think it must be close. Yarrabee Road Reserve at Greenhill is a public tennis court which has recently (June 2019) been resurfaced and fencing completed to make them safe and user-friendly. There are no toilets though so make sure you've taken care of that before you go. You'll find it off Greenhill Road, just past Greenhill Recreation Park where you can also enjoy a walk through the urban streets of Greenhill, Chambers Gully, Waterfall Gully Road Walking Trail and some quiet suburban streets of Burnside. image supplied: Adelaide Hills Council There's also a little playground on the same road, not far from the tennis court. There's not a lot there but you might as well stop for a play before or after tennis (or while you wait your turn if someone else is using the courts)
Find it at: Castle Street, Reynella This little hidden gem is full of things to do, you can easily spend a day here! Theres newly refurbished tennis courts that you can access, as well as basketball courts to practice on. So much open area for nature walks and picnics. Great little playground aimed at 3-8 year olds, but most importantly a huge flying fox for all ages. The best part of this place is the bike/scooter track which has all the usual road signs and traffic lights so the kids can practice their road rules. Theres also a book which explains each of the signs. Theres a funky amenities block, bbq and undercover seating. So grab a coffee at the nearby Southgate Plaza and head on down.
