A South Australian icon for more than 55 years, the Pancake Kitchen always makes me nostalgic for my childhood. It was so exciting to head to that nook of Gilbert St & be allowed to eat pancakes for dinner! I can still smell the maple syrup & remember looking at the menu wondering who on earth would eat bacon on pancakes (adult me, that’s who). Does anyone else remember the jukebox out in the back room? The original Spotify!
It may have changed a bit since then, but The Original Pancake Kitchen is still a hit with kids & makes the perfect family dining spot. It is also now in THREE different locations across Adelaide. The original Gilbert St restaurant has had little pancake babies (pikelets?) & is now also found in Modbury & now inside the Marion Cultural Centre.
Of course, it goes without saying that the pancakes are amazing. There are so many different options to choose from including sweet & savory options in small, regular or tall stacks. If pancakes aren’t your thing, you can grab something from the all-day breakfast menu or is you need some meat on your plate, Pancake Kitchens also double as a Smokehouse restaurant too! And um, excuse me but there’s milkshakes for the kids and COCKTAILS for us adults. The kids AND adults really will be delighted.
Now that the Marion Pancake Kitchen is open too, we popped in there for dinner & were not disappointed! There are colouring sheets for the kids to keep them busy while you wait for your meals (which won’t be long, service was super speedy), friendly staff & a lovely casual atmosphere, with the Marion Library there onsite too!
And just in case you’re still not convinced – Kids Eat Free every Monday. Tuesday & Wednesday at all PK’s locations from 4 pm – 7 pm.

We hit 5 skateparks out north last Sunday and boy were we in need of a good feed.Bypassing the multitude of fast food outlets on Main North Rd we chose Saints Kitchen to slow things down with our excitable couple of kids. Saints Kitchen is a family friendly, cafe and event space in the Chapley's new centre, Saints Shopping. The significant menu suited both my angel and our demons; and would aptly please your Nanna, and your Dad….. The food was fresh and tasty, the salad was light and the iced coffee was strong. There's wine on tap from wine labels such as Saltram Wines and Squealing Pig and it was great to see lots of local suppliers on the menu including La Casa Del Formaggio, Barossa Fine Foods, Riviera Bakery and Rhodes free range Eggs from Clare Valley. Their $10.90 kids menu for 12 and under has a great range to choose from, currently including chicken schnitzel and chips, spaghetti ragu, crumbed fish, kids burger, pizza and a great looking kids platter with arancini, tomato's, cucumber and smashed avo. Not wanting to look like misers we ordered the boys a desert each to finish with. This month’s special (the…
Is there anything better than an ice cream on a hot Adelaide day? (Or any day really?!) We have collated the best spots in Adelaide & beyond to enjoy a delicious ice cream, gelati, gelato, frozen yoghurt or even acai treat with the kids! Whether you're into classic scoops and flavours like vanilla, chocolate or mint chocolate chip, or like something a bit fancy like peach and white chocolate (yes we recently found that) we've done the hard work for you and found the best spots to visit. Plus, does anything make your kids behave better than the promise of an ice cream at the end of the day? We didn't think so. Now for the big question Adelaide ice cream fans: cup or cone?
