Everytime we head out to the Riverland we find something new to see and do with kids in this region. There really is something for everyone. We really recommend that you leave time to explore more than just one town as they all offer something different and exciting for families. It really is a place that’s got it all. It’s a wine region, has beautiful scenery, great accommodation options & plenty of Riverland fun fun for the whole family!

Below we’ve highlighted our “must do and see” for your next trip to the Riverland with Kids. If you’d like accommodation recommendations and more of our top picks for family friendly eats visit our full Riverland with Kids feature here

Illuminate Renmark: In Depth

If you’re thinking about a trip to the Riverland soon, make it between June 3 and July 2 to catch In Depth 2022 as part of the Illuminate Adelaide program.
In Depth is a large-scale multimedia event responsive to the Murray river, its history and the community of Renmark. Projection, sound and lighting transform the river and banks after dark as the local habitat is transformed to celebrate one of the river’s oldest residents.
The central riverbank precinct adjacent to the Renmark Club will come to life with an array of projections, story and sound and a chance to witness the arrival of some mysterious inhabitants from the deep.
There’s no better vantage point than the deck at Renmark Club where you can enjoy a delicious meal (and a kids room!!) and as for accommodation is there anything cooler than a few nights on a houseboat!
Fri 3 June – Sat 2 July

Monash Playground

Most of us oldies will remember Monash Playground from when we were kids. Back in the 80s and 90s it looked a bit like this.. It was EPIC! (and also terrifying)
It doesn’t look like that anymore but it’s still one of S.A’s most loved playgrounds and definitely worth a visit if you’re staying in the Riverland or passing through.

There’s something for all ages at this park. Toddlers will love the and older kids will go crazy for the adventure equipment including big leaning towers, rope bridge, wave bridge, flying fox, see saws, slides, mega swings and even a maze! There’s also some accessible equipment including a liberty swing. And if that’s not enough, in late 2019 they went and added even more equipment including a new Tree House, inclusive Swing Set and get giddy on the Merry-Go-Round!

Kids Tasting Platter at Banrock Station

Kids don’t miss out on the fun at Banrock Station either with their kid’s tasting paddle. Shots of juice, milk paired with pretzels, marshmallows and a chocolate freckle. Yum!

Waikerie Water and Nature Play Park

The park is in a beautiful location right on the riverfront. There’s plenty of natural shade from the big trees surrounding the area and lots of space to run around, kick a ball or set up a picnic spot for the day.
One of the most popular area of the park is the water play area which is great on a hot day, but remember to bring a change of clothes!

Picnic at Lock 3

In 1920 a series of locks and weirs were installed along the Murray to divert water to the emerging agriculture industry and improve navigation of boats along the river. There are six locks in the Riverland. Lock 3 at Overland Corner has a big beautiful grasses area to sit and enjoy a picnic as you watch the boats pass through.

Arrosto Coffee

Iced coffee addict here 🙋🏻‍♀️ The cold drip from Arrosto has changed my life 😆. It was handed to me about 4 years ago and ever since I’ve been buying bottles of the stuff weekly.
Do not pass go in Renmark without a stop here. There are tables inside but the main focus is outside. It’s such a great spot.  They have a great range of cakes and slices. Juices in the fridge or hot/cold chocolate for the kids. Hot tip: The breakfast burgers, available on the weekends only are DELICIOUS!

Kids Orchard Crush Tasting at Mallee Estate

Kids can join in on a tasting experience at Mallee Estage with their Orchard crush tastings available for connoisseurs in training.

Woolshed Brewery at Wilkadene

Gees this is such a beautiful spot for a meal with a great nature play area for kids to play in while you relax. Boof, the dog is also very friendly and great entertainment. There’s a food truck most weekends, it was Thai for us. The tasting paddles are good value for us adults and the hard lemonade and pink lemonade are 👌

Waikerie Silo

The dramatic cliffs of Waikerie have long been popular with houseboaters and other tourists and Riverland and house boaters are able to enjoy the artwork when they are on the river. The silos showcase artworks on both sides, which can be seen from within the town and the River Murray. The Waikerie Silos Art Mural project aims to create a stunning local attraction that reflects the theme “Healthy River, Healthy Community”

Morgan Rail to River Playground

We love a themed playground. Anything with a train is pretty much a certain winner with most kids, so a playground with a train AND a paddle steamer to climb in and on is double the fun!

  • We recently visited South Australia’s Riverland for an extra-long weekend. Having visited the area before we chose Renmark again for its beautiful riverside location and holiday village feel. We decided to leave the caravan home this time and splash out for just a smidge more convenience and stay at the luxurious Renmark River Villas, hosted by Boats and Bedzzz. The accommodation options are great! Boats and Bedzzz host two modern 3-bedroom homes and can accommodate up to 6 or 8 people each. If your party exceeds that why not book both? The homes are adjoining and have a shared fence and gate which can of course be opened up, providing everybody access to the beautiful, heated pool and waterfall in Villa B. In order to fully ease into the holiday we postponed cooking on their Webber Q and 600g Country Style Rib Eye for the first night and made the easy 10 minute walk along the riverbank to the town centre and the Renmark Club for dinner. Past the possums and the rose gardens, past the fountains and the paddle steamer, with the beautiful pink setting sun off to our right. Our return to these lovely homes was welcoming and…

  • The Renmark Club is a brilliant spot to relax with a glass of wine and a meal. Its town centre and riverfront location is the ideal place to meet with family and friends and enjoy all the perks life out here affords. This extensive community club is attractive day and night and easily caters for the significant weekend crowd whilst simultaneously hosting a Wedding in the Function Centre adjacent. There are several sections to choose from for dining, drinking and catching up with friends. People gathered at the Sports Bar in the front, enjoying the numerous wrap around lounges and warming themselves by the fire place while they enjoyed their drinks and socialising. One look at the video games however and our boys beelined it to the sizeable and well appointed Kid's Room. We made our way outside and settled in on the well heated alfresco area and took a moment to enjoy a local bottle of bubbles. It has expansive views over the water and the calming and unpopulated tree lined riverbank opposite. Despite the growing crowd our meals were served promptly. The kid’s schnitzel was large but of course, still only an entrée to the ice cream dessert…

  • Eleni's Greek at Mallee Estate is a winery and restaurant experience all rolled into one, with a whole lot of history and family love keeping this wonderful Riverland business alive in the heart of Renmark. It often takes a family to create a family friendly experience and this is absolutely the case at Mallee Estate. As soon as we arrived at Mallee Estate we instantly felt at home. The grounds are well manicured and the wooden garden games sat out ready to go, indicating this experience was not just for adults but your children are wholeheartedly welcome too. There was giant Connect Four, Jenga and Finska to play. The staff greeted us warmly and as the weather was spectacular again up here in The Riverland, we made the most of it by setting up at a comfortable table outside. We were excited to be taking a guided tour of the Winery with Erica, our host and second-generation Winemaker Jim Markeas, whose parents worked the property for 30 years before beginning to make their own wines here in 1998. They were fantastic guides, and we really got a feel for the role as we saw the inner workings of winery, climbed…

The River Block is perched atop the riverbank of a private lagoon with so much fun to be had! Go kayaking (two are provided, just BYO lifejackets), do a bit of yabbying, or just sit back and enjoy the views. • The Berri Hotel Bistro is another large attractive venue serving from a significant and contemporary menu. You can't go too wrong with a pub meal when you're on holidays and you'll find plenty of pub favourites at the Berri Hotel, along with some new options. Located on Riverview Drive in the heart of Berri, you'll never be too far from the Berri Hotel while exploring this popular Riverland destination. During our visit, the Berri Hotel had that nice "buzz" about it - it was certainly busy, however the staff had everything running well and we didn't need to wait too long to order or get our food. The menu really is extensive - you'll find everything from entrees, to salads, pub classics, seasonal mains, pizza, a kid's menu, lunch specials and a some great dessert options. After much deliberation over the menu, we enjoyed the Crispy Thai Beef and Spicy Wild Prawn salads. Our youngest predictably had the kids schnitzel but our eldest enjoyed a large loaded hot dog. The kids meals are only $10, which is great value! They are not only open for lunch and dinner - you can have breakfast at the Berri Hotel too, with the…
